iRacing

I'll be running FR2.0 and possibly GT3

I think the FR feels easy to drive at first with the baseline because it is a high downforce set. You've really got to push hard to find the limits of grip at times and of course you're going to have to drive with less downforce at some tracks

I was having some good fun last night sliding /crashing around Donnington

GT3 for me 100%, still cant decide what car though. Stick with the BMW or go with a new car? Man, I might even drive the McLaren!!

Still undecided on the FR2.0, only thing is I can see it being a wreckfest with the idiots from the skippy coming over. So, still thinking about the Star Mazda!

Have they released the schedule for the first season of the FR? I'm very tempted to get it but I don't want to buy it and then not have 50% of the tracks. Also did I hear right that it's going to be C Class?

For me, I'll miss Zandvoort, donington and simverstone out, hate all of those tracks. Philip island and brands are the best in the line up.

From the Geneva motor show today, loving it has all the grime of the track still on it.

But one of my personal favorites, and the staff at Maclaren were very friendly, was able to sit in a few (unlike the snobby invite-only of their competitors).

Back on topic :)

Down to a 20.8 at Spa in the FR2.0, only 1.5 off the aliens who were in the session! Getting there slowly but surely!

Default weather etc..

I love the blue carbon on the P1, looks fantastic.

I've spent the evening in the AMG at Nords. The more I drive this thing the more I enjoy it. Best of all I finally managed a sub 6:20 lap!

The annoying thing is the three wobbles I had put me so far off my optimal. Today a 6:19. Tomorrow a 6:18 :D

So I finally got around to re-installing Windows, stuck with W7 cause I'm a luddite :p

Did some upgrades though, and found out that W7 Home Premium only supports 16Gb RAM, and I'd just upgraded by adding 16Gb (to 8Gb), what's worse is it turns out if you have 24Gb fitted, and only 16Gb 'usable', some weird stuff happens with the network driver/stack, was stuck at <2mbps down for ages trying to figure it out, and only then discovered it by pure chance when I removed the 8Gb just cause it wasn't being used.

Anyway, short wait for iRacing to download (upto 14.5Gb now, pretty impressive) and then the usual fiddling to get it setup. DX11 is working pretty seamlessly for me, had to disable video capture but that's it.

Crossfire is working (at least in terms of not detrimental, no idea on framerates as not played around enough), settings are currently higher than previously and without my CPU overclock I think and framerates are ok, will drop the settings a bit but even when it dips <60fps it's still pretty smooth, better than it was it seems.

Anyway, also got to try the FR, I like it a lot more than I thought I would, the star mazda and me never got along, but this is good so far. Only did a handful of laps around Nurburgring GP, only did a 1:58 but can see 57 just with a clean lap and a 56 would be doable, this on the baseline setup with a car I don't know (usually takes a while) around a track I don't know that well.

Gonna try the AMG and a few other cars/tracks tomorrow before I decide but planning to put a bit more effort into it and getting a full season in for the first time in forever it seems like :p

So tempted to pick this up, however the more i read about the cost structure the less i want to.

To get into this game and make the most of it do you need to buy the extra tracks and cars, or is the default stuff you get more than enough?

It's enough to get you started, complete a iRacing season to see if you like it. There's codes around to get you three months for the price of one.

You will need a wheel and pedals.

There's plenty of free content to do enough racing to figure out if it's for you or not. If you do decide to sign up you can get your first 3 months for $12 along with the Ford GT2 & GT3 for free if you use the PR-GRIPTV promo code.

Arrrrghhh, Sebring in the GT3 Merc/Audi/BMW I just cannot get to grips with the middle sectors.
First time racing here and it feels just not right!
