iRacing

Not at all man, they're designed for racing pedals and that's what you have. I prefer the sensitivity of my socks though. Got a nice set of spar I race gloves that I stole from my son from his Karting days.

Good plan. Think of them as house shoes with racing stripes. ;)

I'm quite happy in just socks, but have invested in some karting gloves (OMP KS-4). Didn't particularly enjoy the feeling of sweaty alcantara during the Daytona 24 and the suede gives a better grip.

Got the Sparco Karting gloves because of the Fanatec BMW and wanting to look after it.

Although I've only ever raced in sockets my heal goes dead resting on the metal foot plate of the V3 pedals, plus my feet are always cold anyway so they kill two birds.

And me :p

Just done more practice, got a best of a 2:20.7 bit a bit scruffy, low 2:20 is doable with my optimal being a 19.9.

But the quickest guy at that time was a 2:17.9, which is mental :p (and I think I've seen faster in other sessions)

Finding it a bit weird how much it changes, first half a lap or so it's sketchy as hell, then it's ok but it's around the 3rd lap you can seemingly push a lot harder.

Started pushing the braking/turn-in more and had a few big slides that I held (and several I didn't :p), which coming from the slides you get in the first half a lap or so which are in the lap of the gods as to whether you save them is nicer :p

Also done some practice in the Merc/Audi, Found the Audi quicker but the Merc is more enjoyable to drive, think I might try to run both series, at first at least.

I'm finding that powering un during the turn is helping the car to rotate easier, think a lot of people are waiting to complete the turn.. Mid turn and power on..

I'm using a shared setup from Darren Marsh, but with one or two clicks more rear wing as I was finding it to loose on change of direction in the chicanes, could probably handle that now so probably change back.

I've got 4 gallons in that setup, not thought about race fuel yet, also need to stop getting 1x's before any racing :p

Yeah I think power helps, not done it consciously but looking at my replays some of my best corner entries have a bit of power on, or it's literally going from braking to accelerating with no pause, the skippy I often seemed to roll it into corners a bit more than this.

Managed a few 20.0's and other low 20's, optimal down to a 19.3, so I can see a 19 happening now (especially with a tow, first 20.0 was with a tow and it certainly helps :p)

Stiffened the brake on the V3 pedals, put on the race boots and just managed an 18.6, with 18.2 opt.

Starting with 5.6 gal, medium downforce, default weather and 30% track usage.

I did 11 laps including the out lap on that and had .5 left in the tank.

An 18.6 with the medium setup? I lost so much speed on the two straights that it was impossible to get anywhere near that.. What was your top speed going along the straights?

Just did a 19 dead with the low downforce setup default!

Oh, and I just realised my brake pedal is trailing. Quick adjustment and now it isn't braking when I rest my foot on the pedal now! :)

Just joined hosted session and did a few laps each with your two setups and then another 15 with the medium iRacing setup.

Both those set ups are a bit loose for me, so I'll stick with the medium for now.

I was down to 2 seconds off in the hosted session with an opt that was less than 1.5 away.

OK so done several rookie races now. Loving the oval truck racing, very close stuff and some amazing crashes (not me), managed a few top 7 finishes.

Taken one of the MX-5 Cup cars around Mazda raceway, not so sure i agree with the level of rear end grip, but the cars seem to drive well enough.

Some would say that there are sims out there with better physics than iRacing. Some would say that there are sims out there with better FFB. There are definitely better looking sims out there.

Non of them have the structure of iRacing, which for me, are the only place you can race on public servers and more often than not have a good standard of driving. I'm not saying you don't get dive bombers and the occasional idiot. But compared to other sims online it's as good as it gets without private leagues.

First race since 21st February and I don't even make it to the top of Eau Rouge.

Did a decent amount of practice, qualified 9th as car#19, got away clean from the grid, going up Eau Rouge and the car in front takes too much kerb on the inside, looses the backend a touch and has a wiggle. That slows him enough for me to hit the back of his car and I end up in the barrier and flipped through the air.

A racing incident? Yes.

But when you're about to start a race and you've got guys asking how much fuel, then you know your in trouble.

Nah, I'm not in that one. I didn't make it as far as some of those guys.

My car came to rest just before the crest of the hill. I tried to snip the replay and ended up with 5 seconds of footage.

The annoying thing is I'm quite comfortable in the car now and am within my own benchmark of 2 seconds or less off the fastest time, in whichever practice session I'm in.
