iRacing

Thanks for the set up, couldn't get the hang of it though so I stayed with the iracing high one. Just had a disappointing 8th place finish. Qualified 7th and got up into 2nd until I made a mistake and ended up in 13th and fought my way back to 8th. Only got 3 incident points though and as I was one of the lower ratings in the race mine still went up.

Absolutely gutted...

19:45 FR2 race. 2nd top split, qual 13th. Not bad I thought, up to 8th on 2nd lap then I get the dreaded 5 laps of fuel left.. Arrrggghh, forgot to refuel, pit in take 4 gals, it holds me for 30 seconds even though I had unticked tyres, get out and pump in low 1.18s, .07 off the fatest lap with a 1.18.17.

The speed is getting there, just need to remember and fuel up :)

I haven't raced the FR for two weeks, I've gone back to the Skippy and it's been some of the fairest and cleanest racing I've ever enjoyed for a long time.

I've done five races and finished 6th or better in all but one race. Even that race would have been a top 5 if I hadn't out braked myself which end in contact. It caused decent damage but I still limped home in 9th.

All five races netted an IR gain.

I'd say most of the idiots that used to be in the Skippy series have migrated to the FR and that's one of the reasons is a wreckfest.
100% agreed , i think im done with the FR for a while as its way to expensive on my Licence ....

Seriously?

I'm having a ball compared to any other class I normally race in. You always get the odd idiot who is blocking etc, but in general especially at Atlanta it has been really clean. The only incident points I have in 3 races there are down to my lack of skill, ie off tracks or not making the blind crest corner and spinning.

Well ive not raced at Road Atlanta in the FR2.0 yet. but Monza was just , better starting from the rear...as it always had to be won on the 1st lap.
Then even after that i found myself getting quite a few X4 after having contact with the cars in front due to them braking so early at certain spots,, which then resulted in me taking it easy due to that fact as they were unpredictable.
I know ill be back to them,,, just need to build my licence up again , so i have a cushion :)

Just finished first and probably only race this week.

FR 2.0 at Atlanta.

Started 13th as car #19, only my first lap counted as I made a mistake on the second flying lap and couldn't make the time back. Then I basically drove the most sensible race I think I ever have. I sat back watched the idiots take each other off and settled in and raced a couple of guys around me who where probably quicker but a bit erratic so I didn't fight too hard when they tried to overtake (dive bomb.)

I was running 6th at one point but in the end I limped home in 10th after having to lift and coast for the last two laps because I was low on fuel. I crossed the line with the low fuel warning counter on 62. Obviously 5.2 gallons wasn't enough, Doh! Don't know why I didn't go with my normal 5.9 gallons.

I really like the track and feel I have got reasonable pace but I have also got at least one big mistake a race which is costing me. Again never raced at Nurburgring on Iracing before but have done many laps there over the years. I had a few practice laps there and I think I like it in the FR.

Same here Mike, always have the nagging in my head that I am going to spin at least once a race. I think I need to turn off F3 when racing, asd I am constantly checking it and that can lower my confidence if I see the guy behind gaioning even slightly, also I miss some corners because I check at the most un-opportune moments lol..

Joined a prectice session last night, got down to a 157.3 on default weather, thought I was doing pretty good, then a guy joins does 5 laps and posts a 1.55.3. I cannot see how I will ever get down to there.

I think with the FR2.0 you have to be aware of what is going on ahead of you and avoid the accidents

I've been in some pretty scrappy races but have managed to avoid being totally wrecked by just hanging back in the right places

Looking forward to Nurb this week, pretty comfortable at that track though I'm not sure I'll be hitting 1.55!

You have to race with you head in the FR 2.0 series and you definitely have to up the concentration levels. You're also better off being consistent rather than quick, I always try and find the pace I can do lap after lap before I start chasing any extra time.

If I race I'll probably go for the high downforce again. It was ok at Atlanta, I was venerable on the long straight but could gain the place back by the end of start finish straight.

See how practice goes. The Skippy is at Zolder this week, which is track I like but it tends to be a wreckfest when I race there, but now that the idiots are in the FR series it might be ok.

Bit of a facepalm moment. Ever since I started racing the FRs I thought my wheel was starting to play up and missing down shifts again. I found it rather strange that it seemed to be the same part of the track. I just found out the car has rev protection so that it doesn't down shift when the revs are too high lol. :p

Rookie mistake!

To be fair though it is quite easy to miss downshifts in this car especially into 2nd

Yeah the down shifts take a bit of getting used too. Watch one of Robert Plumleys races' in the FR2 and all you hear is click, click click, click when trying to downshift, if he got it right he would be so much faster.

Anyway, just left an official practice session at Nurb, got down to 1.54.3 with optimal being a 1.53.9. Fastest guys were a 1.53.1. Catching them slowly but surely, I can guaranteee it is the new rig that has brought the speed for me, braking is so much easier now that I don't roll back.. :)

Any chance of posting your set up please :D Not had time to practice since Sunday but going to have a long practice session tomorrow and see if I'm ready for a race.

It's on the rig machine in the garage mate.

Although if you use Nick Thissens Setup Synch, it is the one from Anon on there with an extra 1 pound of tyre pressure across all four tyres.

If you don't use Nick's then you should start :)

Just had what you might call 'one of them races'. It took ages to load into the session and when it did it was stuck on 'waiting', I had to quit and reload which took ages so I couldn't qualify. Starting 21st I nearly make the whole way round the first lap when somebody who spun at the chicane at the end of the lap decided to rejoin the track aand hit me. Not only did I get the 4xs it comically beached me on the kerb. I got towed to the pits which cost me 1.30s then after it count down it gave me a pitstop and added 13.gals of fuel! So on lap 2 I was sat in the pits with 48 laps of fuel left. I just had a nice leisurely drive after that got no more incident points and annoyingly set the 4th fastest lap of the race while carrying 34 laps of fuel.

No idea how you're managing that! Even after half an hours practise I was struggling to get into the 58s with the setup you linked.

I love the track, won a couple of Kia Cup races last time with decent SOFs, so I know my way around...

Off to cadge some tips from Plummers...
