iRacing

I'm struggling at Nurburg too, a high 1:55 is about as good as I can get when the fastest guys are well into the 53's.

I don't know If I can be bothered to risk the Skippy at Zolder, so it could be a race free week for me.

Got a third place on my first race earlier this week, second race I got rear ended on corner one and sopun around, then a car drives through me and topples me upside down, race done corner 1. Came back out sligtghly damaged and finished 15th I think..

The 3rd place gave me decent championship points, sitting top 25 in the div4 championship. Target is top 15, which there is a chance for.

Right, my triple-screen setup is nearing completion! It might even have been up-and-running today if ParcelForce hadn't been dramatically inefficient.

So, the first of my questions to those that have got a triple-screen setup regards bezel correction. It seems that various games (iRacing for one) has the option within the game itself to correct for monitor bezels. However, some other games don't appear to have such options, so presumably I'm better to correct for the bezels within the NVIDIA control panel? Running 3x1080p monitors from a GTX 970, this would give me an artificial resolution of something like 5900x1080 and would mean that all games look roughly correct around the bezels. Is this how you lot are doing things or is there a better way?

Many thanks, I'll get some pics up once the setup is complete.

I am quite sure with iRacing that you should use the in sim bezel correction. Just take the measurements it asks for and it works everything out correctly for you :). What else are you planning on running in surround? All the sims I use support their own triple screen support, I've never had to do it from the NV panel.

I bought 3 BenQ GW2760HS monitors. They seem pretty decent and only cost me £419 for the 3 of them.

Of the sims that I'll end up using, Automobilista and RaceRoom Racing Experience have no support for bezel correction. The latter doesn't adjust the view for the angle of the monitors, either, but getting the correct bezel correction is a start.

Good choice, exactly the setup I have :)

I'll post a screenshot of my iRacing monitor settings for you when I get home tonight. In theory all you would need to change is the monitor angle and distance. From what I read when setting them up, you shouldn't use the NV control panel to do the bezel correction, as it stretches out the side monitors. If you set it in iRacing directly it will not stretch as it renders three different views, one for each screen.

Good to know and thanks in advance for your settings.

I'm hoping to use in-game bezel correction at a resolution on 5760x1080 for the sims that support it. For those that don't, I'll use NVIDIA's control panel and then select the resolution that compensates for the bezels.

Parcelforce have finally delivered a load of aluminium profile, so the saw is coming out and construction begins...

For some reason my in-game triple screen selection wouldn't work. Had to turn on Nvidia Surround, tweaked the bezels and then it would allow me to triple screen in game. Absolutely perfect in gameeverything lines up perfectly even after hiding one of the outside screens bezels behind the middle screen.

They look like pretty decent monitors, I'm toying up with the idea saving up for the 144 hertz monitors but don't know if it would be a waste of money. I currently have 3 year old 27inch 120 hertz monitor and don't know if its just best to get two more 27 inch 60 hertz and spend the rest on beer :p

Beer. Every time.

I finally pulled my finger out of my *** and bought the Skippy and some tracks so that I could work my way towards a C license. Had my first Skippy race at Okayama last night and it was so damn good!

Assuming that they do another $100 credit for $75 deal at some point, does anyone know if you can purchase it more than once? I've tried searching online but I wasn't able to find any confirmation.

I'm really hoping that they do 50% off subscriptions soon because my 3 month trial ends on 26 June. Apparently the 4th of July is about the time it happens each year.

EDIT: I also ordered an Oculus Rift :)

They usually offer the discounted $100 and (I think) a similarly discounted $25 at the same time. You can only buy one of each.

Enjoy the skippy! I had my first race in months in it last night too. I wasn't particularly fats, but managed 6th place with no incidents.

Aww that's a shame, but understandable.

I could've ended in 5th place but lost my nerve and ended up finishing in 8th which is still alright in a field of 18.

so not raced at all the last couple of weeks, had some spare time last night and couldn't be bothered to buy Silverstone and learn it for the FR2.0 so thought I'd run the skip at Okayama

Ended up in the top split so didn't qualify that far up but pretty much the whole grid was following in a train for a good few laps. Was great clean racing, made my way up to 9th and then lost it 2nd lap from the end

Think I've forgotten how much fun the skippy can be, I love the FR2.0 but it is a different type of driving and racing IMO

I'll throw the vid up on youtube later

Just two races in the Skippy this week.

First race I ran into the back of someone on lap one. Totally my fault, missed my brake point in the crowd and that was that. Had to pit for damage, luckily the guy I hit seemed to carry on without any damage. I sent him a message to apologise.

Second race I qualified 17th as car #17, half a second from 16th and two and a half from pole. I'm normally one and a half seconds off the aliens, but Okayama is a track I struggle at. Never seems to be any grip at all and after two thirds of a race it's like driving on ice.

A net gain of +3 iRating. :p

Mid Ohio next week and another track I struggle with.

Okayama always seems to have a very hot slippery track

Done quite a few races with mixed results, best was a 2nd place last night. Caught the leader with a few laps to go but he just defended too well

I've had some brilliant wheel to wheel racing in the skip this week, I think the car and track go together quite well

My second race was ok for about half of it. Close racing between 4-5 cars, with the slipstream allowing me to keep in touch. But the #6 car chased us down as a result of being quicker anyway, but also our fight slowed us down. My plan was to let him pass me without a fight (no point fighting a loosing battle) and then concentrate on the guys I'd been racing once he passed them. As it worked out, I lost time letting him by, the next driver raced him hard and then they just seem to pull away as I lost grip as the race went on.

I ended up in a no mans land of four seconds behind and six seconds ahead of any cars for the last 4 laps. A top ten finish from last position start wasn't a bad result for top split Skippy on a Sunday.

In the last few weeks my ir has taken a bit of a battering, losing about ~400 and now at 1200. Some of it was idiots taking me out lap 1, some of it was simply being beaten by many better drivers, and quite a lot of it due to my own poor racecraft - pushing too hard every lap for that lap pb and eventually spinning out. I have to learn to ease off sometimes to secure a better finish.

This week is mid Ohio, followed by Nordschleife Industriefahrten. After having checked out Ohio, it's a bit "meh", so wondering whether focusing on Nords practice this week may pay dividends? Thinking that as long as I can avoid being taken out or going off in the first few minutes, getting to know the track perhaps better than a majority of competitors may reap rewards? Thoughts?
