Spending the time practicing is a good idea especially on Nords, learn the track inside out

Another tip is to practice going off line in the overtaking zones so you get used to where to brake and turn in etc

I used to do this in my karting days to check how much grip was available in the braking zone

I've never raced Mid Ohio and I don't think I have it so I'll be back in the FR2.0 this week

I turn off the lap comparison bar during races, it stops me chasing time when I don't need to. You don't gain any points or iRating for fastest laps.

If your one of the slowest drivers in your split then don't race anyone. You've more chance of gaining places through attrition than racing your nuts off.

If you're one of the higher ranked drivers in your split then you need to observe the rule of, to finish first, first you have to finish. If the two or three cars in front a racing mad then hang back and wait for them to take each other out. Patience is definitely pays off, I've gained a couple of wins this season by being patient.

Anyone in for the VLN race this weekend? I don't normally race GT3, but I'm tempted for this one.

I've tried qualifying a few times this week and was happy to get under 8:00, until I realised I was still 2.6 seconds off the pace - and the big guns haven't posted times yet. Looks like I'll have to put my faith in a decent race set and pray traffic take everyone else out :D

Too many other games to play, so practice for anything else other than whichever track I prefer in either the Skippy or FR, is all I have time for.

Raced at Mid Ohio in the Skippy last night, I'm not a fan of the track but it works well in the
Skippy. Started 7th as #6 and finished 6th in a very uneventful race. Had about 5 laps of racing with two other cars until my tires went and they just pulled away. Again I ended up in a no mans land of 10 seconds behind the car in front and 15 ahead of the car behind.

I use the Chandler set up, as I've always done, so I'm not sure why the tires feel like they've got no grip after half a race. Yet my lap times were consistent and mostly within a few tenths of each other for the whole race. Especially if you take out my fastest lap, which would've had a decent slipstream. And my slowest where I made a mistake.

I use that set up every week and have done since I started the Skippy.

Set ups are one area are can't be bothered with or have any knowledge or skills in.

It's one of the reasons I don't race GT3 anymore. No sooner I find a set that I am comfortable with at most tracks, there's an update and all the set ups I had no longer work.

I don't really understand setups much, but generally to give one end of the car more grip make it softer, at high speed tracks make the car stiffer all around, tyre pressures should be ~175-190 kPa after a few laps (varies depending on car, but all in that range), brake bias should be as close to 50/50 as possible for the car, and aero changes make very little difference except on the single seaters.

50/50 for brakes is a nightmare for me! I tend to run really high balance to the front, sometimes as much as 58% in the FR 2.0. Otherwise I tend to get a whole lotta lock ups and spins when braking just off centre.

Sorry, poor wording on my part. Running high one way or the other isn't necessarily that bad, I just mean you want it as close to 50/50 as you can handle. For example in the Corvette DP I use 57% front because that's where it's most manageable. If I move the bias any further back than that and it's my ass in a wall :)

I've just done a race at Mid Ohio and I was hit by another car in turn 4. It spun me into the grass and basically put me into last place. Managed to finish 10th in the end.

When I checked the replay I was clearly hit by car #7, yet he finished with 0 inc and I finished with 3 inc.

How is that possible? Is that some kind of weird netcode thing?

After the qualifying screwup for the VLN ... started in the 3rd split based on my iRating.

Finished 2nd in the Kia class, with one incident free stint and maxed out my SR. Very happy with that, considering we had to grab a tow after my mates PC got an attack of the jitters and the car got stuck in the armco...

A few races at Mid Ohio this week, apart from a net code incident in one race, I've been incident free. Mostly start mid to late grid and finished in the top ten. Not quite sure why I can hold my own for about six laps and then I loose touch with the cars in front as my tyres go off. Well they feel like I'm loosing grip but my lap times a pretty consistent. Any variation is more down to my driving than anything else.

I did some FR 2.0 practice at Suzuka, it went well but I don't think I'm brave enough to race that track with the FR melee into turn one.

I've been half living at my GFs the past couple of weeks so I've not be able to race in the Fr since nurburgring but I have now finally set up all my stuff there and I'm ready to race again this week. Good news for me it's Montreal which I already have but never raced in Iracing. Are we thinking a medium or a low downforce set up.

Low downforce was slower than medium at Spa, so I'd go medium.

For us mere mortals I'm guessing medium or high at all tracks. Maybe Monza would be the only low downforce track.

Skippy at Nords is about the most fun you can have in this car I think.

Shame I'm so far away from a quick time. Currently I'm in the 8:14's, with the fastest guys 9 seconds quicker. I think I could drive this track for the rest of my life and not find 9 seconds.

I can't see the racing being much fun. If you can survive the inevitable wreckfest at the start, then the margins between drivers means there will be very little racing I fear.
