iRacing

I also am very skeptical towards the direction the sim is going in. I have a feeling they may be struggling financially hence the price hikes and constant new content which only further dilutes participation. Putting so much focus and resources on Dirt racing was a horrible horrible choice imo and I feel like Dave K's tyre project has been a pretty spectacular failure. It's probably the worst tyre model out of all the major sims and the worst elements of it never get fixed.

I feel the same way @barmy. The burnout started about a year ago when I reached my iRating goal. I realised there wasn't much keeping me coming back, and there was no real development that mattered to me. I don't care about dirt (rally cross or otherwise), or GT3. I care about them improving the tyre model, updating the ancient graphics engine, day night transitions, and making multi-class work properly, instead of feeling tacked on to a NASCAR sim.

I haven't raced since January, but from what I understand none of that has happened. None of those issues directly make them money like new content does, so they just don't care.

day and night transition is being worked on, there are development videos of it on youtube. Id say the sim is now more road focussed than Nascar tbh, the road content is pretty comprehensive from a track perspective. Back in 2008 when I first joined it was nearly all nascar based.

what are the multi class issues you speak of btw ? the splitting system ?

day and night transition is being worked on
They've been saying that since 2015 when the DX11 transition was first mooted. Meanwhile they churn content. I know they need to keep the doors open, but they need to find a better business model than whacking us like piggy banks every 13 weeks.

Pretty sure they only confirmed they had actually started working on it a few months back when the dev video was released. Also the people who do the content probably aren't responsible for doing day/night transitions so im not sure that will be taking away from development time on that front.

Overall I agree though, the problem is they are still the only place offering an organised and in depth online service. The online functionality in other games is pathetic compared to iRacing and so long as thats the case im not sure iRacing will look to drastically change their business model... especially as it will probably take another developer many years to be able to even come close to offering anything as in depth.

I recently installed and signed up for SRS for Assetto Corsa and while it's not as refined as the iRacing system, nor do you have as big a choice of race slots. You still get decent online racing for public servers and it doesn't require the commitment a league racing might.

I've done a couple of evening races and there were around 3 splits for the 7pm SEAT race each time.

I believe that Race Department also run races using the same service so there's a reasonable amount of races and start times to choose from at any one time.

Sorry one more question. I've signed up but it won't let me download the apps... says I don't have permission even though ive activated account via email. Do I need to wait for an admin to ok the account or something ?

Check your inbox of the email you signed up with. You need an activation link from that email. Mine went straight to spam so check there if it's not in your main box.

Sorry I see you've already done that.

There's also an activation code in that email yiu can manually enter on the website.

Yeah I've tried entering that but it says my account is already activated, then when I go to the download page and click on the link to the app it says I don't have permission to access this resource.

Now when I try and request a new code it says that it cannot resend account activation email as all registrations must be approved by an admin.

Guess I just wait and hope an admin activates it at some point.

As regards updates, Tony Gardiner posted this a couple of days ago :

As usual dozens of things are in development and production, a portion of which will be in the next quarterly update.

We are about three weeks away from the update. We will not be releasing Global Rally Cross prior to that to answer that question. However, the graphics, modeling, physics, cars, tracks, new functionality are in very good shape and ready to go. We are still tweaking away on numerous minor details in certain areas like race control, spotter commands, etc. We have done plenty of testing, and we have received great real-world driver feedback which we have incorporated. To cut to the chase, there is a strong likelihood GRC will be in the coming build. This initial rollout should feature three tracks with one of the tracks being an iRacing free track and having two circuits. All of the GRC tracks are circuits within other tracks, so if you already own those, there is nothing to buy in regard to tracks. We are releasing two different GRC cars initially, with one car being free. To answer another question, Yes, feel free to take an F1 car or any car off a GRC jump, I’m sure the suspension will be just fine.

We also are planning on releasing heat racing in the next update. The plan is to have some official series setup for heat racing including GRC, dirt ovals and short pavement ovals. We are also striving to have heat racing ready for use in hosted racing, but there is still some web development left to do so there is no guarantee on that for the build. It is the goal, however.

We also are planning to release the new dirt oval and dirt road license types. In regard to the Dirt Road license, everyone will be starting from scratch as rookies, for the new dirt oval license, we came up with a different convention that I explained in a forum post a while ago that member seemed to like.

We also plan on releasing a new dirt midget car and a new dirt track, Knoxville, however still some shining up going on for both.

There has been a physics update on the stock cars which testers are really liking.

The plan is to release pit crew animation for all the high-level stock cars. It looks great. I think about 10 cars off the top of my head. Could also be further hand-over-hand animation as well for additional cars in this update.

A variety of upgrades and improvements to the new UI.

Well, these are some of the bigger items that are strong candidates for this build but there are also dozens of smaller items and details which sometimes people like the best.

There is certainly much more in the works. No, we have not forgotten about road cars (numerous cars in various stages of production) or tracks, oval content, improvements to existing content, day-to-night transitions, new damage model, physic upgrades and tire improvements, sound improvements, new and improved graphics and several other significant developments not yet mentioned. All those things and much more are in full development. Many more quarterly updates to come.

Thanks for all your support!

I'm getting back into this after getting a bit disillusioned due to a rather disastrous petit le Man. Going to be doing BES with my team, endurance racing is the most fun and rewarding for me.

I run 3 x 24" 1080p 60hz triples with a GTX 980ti, 8GB RAM and an i5 4960K @ 4.0Ghz.

I've uploaded my settings an more or less my view from my seat.

I'd say I never drop below 60 fps at any track, even on a full grid of GT3 cars. Most of the time my card is around 85% GPU usage.

Full size in game in spoilers.

Sorry to drag forward this post but I'd love to know which monitors you have here?

Thanks.
