iRacing

That's alright then, means I can get plenty of races in a week... I've been trying to keep it as clean as possible and have been doing well apart from a few incidents where other cars have not given enough room... What have I got to look out for? What is this SR I see?

SR is gained from completing laps with as little incident points as possible (if you get 17x in a race you get DQ'd anyways.) You get 1x for an off track, 2x for spinning 90 degrees and 4x for contact with another car. Baring in mind the contact is a no fault system, both drivers get the 4x even if they drive into the back of you. It may seem unfair in the beginning but it teaches you lessons of when and how to fight, also it would be very hard for AI to assign fault in a lot of racing incidents. You need SR to go up licenses, the higher the licenses the more series you are allowed to compete in. As a rookie, in rookie Mazdas you can only compete against other rookies. After getting to D license, your in the big bad world of iracing against everyone one else.

Ohhh I see I did wonder what the 1x etc was.. I do try my best to be as fair as possible and make it realistic but some drivers I've seen have been abit rough :p I enjoy the Mazda Cup very fun series

Got 2 races in tonight, one at 10pm and one at 11pm... First race I really enjoyed it and had some close racing between 3 of us... Second race I ended in abit of a mood as on the first bend on lap 1 someone decides not to brake and take out 4 of us, luckily I got fixed up and was able to finish the race... Really ****** me off but I kept a cool head and brought it home for the team..

Race 1: Grid 9 Finished 5
Race 2: Grid 7 Finished 8

Better get used to that. It's a regular occurrence in every class of iRacing.

A few of us here did the 24 hours of Le Mans a few years back and got rammed at Mulsanne corner on the first lap.

Its a pain in the backside...other than that one incident ive really enjoyed my first week or so racing

Just been away on holiday for 4 days, came back today and thought I'd get some Mazda races done but when I load up the iracing app it says update needed to continue so now I am installing a 5gb update!

is this normal for this game?

Also it says I now have a D licence in road racing

Yeah that's normal. They keep things updated regularly, especially at the beginning of a new season. You don't have to download everything, though. Only the content for the series you own, or want to run in.

Ahhh that's alright then I did wonder if it was because of that.... I clicked on the option which is less of a download

Just started playing again after an 8~ year break. Initially signed up when the game was very new but didn't stick with it back then as didn't have a good setup or wheel

Recently picked up a wheel/pedal set and VR headset and getting really addicted now, makes it so immersive to play.

Skippy last week at brands hatch was really good, learning a lot about car balance and race lines. Ghosting faster drivers in VR is really good as well to learn turn points etc. Just had a few stupid off tracks so far but no major contacts so gotta work on consistency. Was 2nd place in skippy for a few laps then slid off the last corner, wrecked car and ended up pitting and then finishing in like 15th :p

I can't wait to get onto the Skippys they seem so much fun and good racing... I'm still doing Mazda races... Keeping it consistent most the time with some good finishes

how does this game compare to assetto corsa?

More expensive, no AI (For the time being), less car choice, no mod support.....
However it's the best online racing experience you will find, If your big into online racing then it's the best option and definitely worth the outlay. Even if you don't do online races now I would at least give it a go for a few months. There is usually quite good starter offers.

I was in two minds before getting IRacing but now I have it I love it and haven't played a better racing game that's online... Like Mike has mentioned ^^^ there's less choice of cars and no AI but that doesn't matter to me if I'm honest... I'm only on my rookie season in the Mazda Mx5 and get some good races

Just found the ghost driving mode, super useful to learn lines in a safe way
  • Find race on track you'd like to learn
  • Don't enter, wait for it to start then enter as a watcher
  • Click practice and you drive around in ghost mode while the race is going on

A ahhhh cheers for that... That will be useful to use

Ghost mode is also useful if you want to try out a series to see if you'd be competitive or not.

AC online is just the same hand full of people repeating the same track day in day out, its more of a time trial game than racing so i will give iracing a go
If you want great, mostly clean, online races then there's no real alternative to iRacing.

Oof had to go a fair way back for this thread, guessing nobody plays much anymore? Either way, if any of you do and happen to see this post: I'm interested in picking up a VR headset but I'm drowning in how much choice there is these days. What are people's recommendations?
