I've just signed up for a year and am waiting (impatiently) for the 10GB download to finish.
My son is playing Fortnite and complains when his ping drops so I will finish the download tonight ** grrrrrrI am doing the same, I have a decent connection, says 5 mins - still come on!

That's not good - I'm all done, had a quick shot and wow got a steep learning curve ahead!
Any tips anyone?

I also find watching streams from fast guys helps understand braking technique.
Also worth looking at some track guides in youtube. Learn all the turn in points, breaking points etc.
I did an event at Laguna Seca and kept getting rammed on the last corner from people leaving their braking way too lateI did my first event , a Nascar truck event - actually went ok; some madness on track from some but I did ok for my first race, a couple of pretty decent laps at least![]()

Maybe you were braking too early![]()
So for someone just getting started on iRacing, what should I be looking at purchasing as a priority? I've been sim racing for a long long time but never really put much time into iRacing due to the subscription/payment model.
GT/endurance racing is my go to, and I sometimes enjoy low/mid end open wheelers, however I'm not interested in oval racing at all.
Had an hour on the Skippy.. Ive no idea how people are getting 1.31.XXX around Roval on Charlotte Speedway??
Yeah I've started off in the MX5's, setting comfortable high 42's/Low 43's at the moment after about half hour of praccy and a qually session, put me mid/front of the pack and still about 1.5-2 sec off the fastest pace. The MX5 is a fun little car when you get a feel for it, really have to maximise smooth inputs and carrying speed.Lap time comes with practice.
I’m just starting in Rookie and focusing on the Laguna Seca MX5 cup. When I started I was lapping around 1:50 with other people at 1:45’s. Now I’m in the 1:45’s and the fast people are 1:40 to 1:41’s
you have to catch it early, very light throttle control, dont lift off too quickly and small steering inputs. I've found iRacing to be a bit of a nightmare to catch spins, dosnt feel like any other sim, there is no muscling your way out of it, once you've passed the point of no return you just have to go with it and accept you are in damage limitation. The mx5 is a weird one for me, as I don't like the way it just spins out, it feels like you can't hold a slide. Its annoying
