iRacing

Had two good races yesterday, managed 6th and a 7th. The 7th I was pleased with as I had very poor qually (went off track on both) and ended up 18th, decided to let everyone go by at the start so went into the first corner 20th. I would have had 5th had it not been for a guy with very poor race craft cutting across me as I went up the inside of him on the last corner. But I didnt get any INC for it so all good

I had bad one last night - BMW 12.0 at Brands. I was in 3rd when I missed a braking point on the last corner. I could just recover to the pits where I then got a 40 sec penalty for a unsafe entry :o

When do people stop crashing into you? I’ve got a D license and the Skippy but I’ve been racing the Mazda the last few weeks.

Usually quali around 4-7th and it’s rare that I have a race where there isn’t a ridiculous smash into me or somebody hitting my rear end on a corner causing a Spin

what is your irating? I found it got better at around 1.8k. Accidents will still happen but you generally start to see a better field of racers. You just gotta know what to look for and who to be weary of. After the first lap or so the races will start to thin out. And of course qualifying mid pack you're right in amongst it. The fast guys are gone, the slow guys are left behind then the mid order are left to battle as most people's pace will be around the same.

wow it’s a lot lower than I thought, I’m at 1200 :(

Does the game match have you with similar rated players or is it a random selection? Does safety rating come into it at all?

The only use of SR is to determine what series you are and aren't allowed to race in, it's not a value you should ever be worried about as you'll naturally progress to A licence when you have better racecraft. The split you get put in to is based entirely on your iRating, so you'll always be paired with people the game believes are on the same pace as you.

It's not always the case, as for example the past 2 weeks I've put some real practice in and gone from being 1k iR to 1.8k. If you can complete race distance practice sessions at a good pace with 0 self-caused incidents then gaining iRating is just about finishing the race. The biggest thing that helped me was to focus on self-preservation at the start of races. You're at an iRating where people will dive bomb you into a corner on lap 2, just let them have it and stay clean - I guarantee you'll overtake them later on in the race after they've crashed out. Obviously, once the tyres are nice and warm and the field is starting to spread out you can begin to be aggressive/defend as needed, after all, it's fun to actually race!

Had my first proper dirty race last night in the BMW 12.0, was in a majority Yank server, most of them were just downright dirty. I dont mind getting the shoulders out and getting a bump and grind on in GT racing but that was just
ridiculous... It was like a destruction derby at times. weaving and moving about in braking zones to excess, just completely ungentlemanly behavior. I escaped most of it relatively unscathed, but even then I was on 11 incident points by the end.

VLN for me yesterday. 3rd split. TCR is fiercely competitive, lost a couple of minutes to repairs in the pits which put us 9th. Fun race though, and good practise for the Nurb 24 in a few weeks.

Gets fun when you're gaining on a couple of MX-5s, while a GT3 is less than a couple of seconds behind you and breathing down your neck!

It's completely dependant on the split and your irating. If there are 100 people signed up for a 12:00 race for argument sake, where only 10 can race on the grid, then you'll get 10 splits of 10 where in each split you'll be racing against the 10 closest players to your irating. If you are the lowest irated player in your split you will be car #10, therefor iracing expects you to finish 10th. For these races where you are the lowest skilled car, irating is easy to come by as you'll naturally gain positions with others crashing, causing accidents etc so you can gain places without even racing. But the reverse when you are car #1 in your split, you'll need to finish high to gain irating.

Safety rating doesn't come in to it, it only shows that you have invested the time to gain licenses and give others in the race an idea of your racecraft. I love it when I see a A4.5 around me, but I get scared if I see A1.6, it just gives you a good idea of how careful or skillful the players are around you.

Shame it doesn't show license/SR information on the relative really. The streamers use third party apps for it.

I'm back at A4.99 after VLN. Although to be fair, I was 4.89 before. I can probably have a couple of shocking races and it won't budge!

Yeah, there's a few. Kutu the main one you'll see the big streamers use. One of my team uses the SDK Gaming one, but you pay for the privilege.

I use JRT for timing data - comes in handy during the enduros. Also gives those type of stats.

I’m using Kapps to show Licence and iRating info during events. It really helps judging the racers you’re up against.

The lower rating races defo have lower standard drivers. The chat and voice can be brutal (not child friendly) and some of the driving is appalling. Quite often in the rolling Start lap a tussle will break out between some of the drivers because one person did something which set another driver off.

My first lap is always to avoid contact and I will let drivers through who show too much aggression, because as RyanF posted, more than likely they will end up crashing more than once.

I don't bother with the overlays. I find it distracting, and you can get a good handle on a driver's ability from the lines they're using as well as their car control. It's easy to spot the clowns, and to avoid them in endurance races.

I put them on my side monitors, I dont have anything on my main monitor. I do however record them with OBS to mask over my recording for YouTube upload.

I've been playing a fair bit of ACC recently including some online games which I've enjoyed but I think iracing edges it with the matchmaking system and more control over what races you can partake in. There's also the cost element to it! Anyone else play both and have any opinions?

I play both, they are both fantastic to be fair. Nothing beats iracing if its multiplayer racing you want and does have a lot of varied content. But ACC does a pretty good job seeing as it's far cheaper obviously. Not a lot can touch ACC graphically and the sfx are just off the charts good. Both should be in every racing fans library.
