iRacing

Good job, i dont think ill ever get that one lol not in the C Spec RUF at least.

Back from my head surgery, still a bit sore but back racing, which makes me happy, last 3 weeks ive not raced due to it, so ive fallen way behind on standings and points, i was 2nd in div2 and like 5th or 6th overall, dare not look at where i am now.

Got a few things i need to get used to, one is the head lol, 2nd the bushing brake mod for the t500rs pedals and lastly the GTE 458 wheel for the T500 - i hope ill be back to full speed this week, only 2 secs off the expected pace at oulton park island (starts tomorrow).

2 questions, hopefully someone can help me with.
1 - Virtual mirror FOV - any idea how we can calculate this, they always seems miles away when they are infact 2cm from my rear end.
2 - The GTE 458 wheel, bloody creaks all the time, like the plastic for the buttons is loose, despite all the screws being as tight as i can make them it wont go away - any ideas?

I use 60-70 which gives a good feel to how close and how far they are off your tail. I prefer around 62-65 this stops the diving sensation you see in the rear view mirror with it at anything higher. That really unsettles me.

Cheers Spils, not much on the subject on google, just the general FOV thing not the mirror, ill give those base values a try later and see how i get on, anything to make it more realistic in terms of their distance from the rear of the car, as like you it does unsettle you a bit with the yoyo effect with the default VM FOV.

Had a cracking last SRF race last night. I am a top split top 3rd racer and had a brilliant 14 lap battle for 4th place between myself and a French man at Canadian MoSport. He would lead one lap, I would draft on back straight and take it back and on we would go swapping.

Never had such close racing in my limited time, inches from each other for 14 laps until I put a wheel on the grass by Moss corners. Ended up 6th I think and had a ball of a time.

I am currently 2nd in Div 5 for SRF in my 1st proper session and we are at Charlotte Road this week where I am happy that I have clocked under 1:24 a few times. Still at least a second off the top runners, but really enjoying my 1st session.

Np yer i fiddled for ages myself till I got something correct Im sure I'm running 62 now down from 67. Ill check when I next set wheel up not raced for about 3 weeks so those figures could be out but I'm sure that what I have set.

Charlotte Speedway is a funny old track to race on. I cant actually get a good lap on there anymore, I was managing 1.22 now I struggle to get mid 1.23! Anyways, qualified second somehow and ended up 8th on the first lap! Kept my cool as I didn't want to lose any ratings and everyone in front of me either crash or span through-out the race. I got up into 2nd on the last lap and settled for that as first place was 4secs up the road. Come around the bend that leads up onto the oval and what do I see? 1st place in a fence! Thanks for the Win chaps! I was the only one in the race without and INC! :o

looking forward to getting Donnington track next build if its ready in time.

I only live 20 miles from it and used to go and watch the gp bikes riden by Sheene and Roberts and even done a few laps on a Honda 6 cylinder bike 30 years ago.

Yeah, Donington is one i'd like to see, its local enough to go to events on the day, but its got a nice flow to it, and its always nice to see traditional race venues being added, cos they're typically much more fun than modern designer tracks.

Just had a cracking race at Brands in the Skippy. Started 4th (finished 4th) sensible start off the grid and the front two shot off, while the drivers either side of me had a cracking scrap from start to finish. Each time i'd get infront i'd do something stupid, and for some reason the car just didnt quite feel the same, but it was mostly taking corners poorly, turn 4 being one, and the 2nd to last corner being another. We were all making small little mistakes and kinda holding each other up, and although the guy who finished ahead of me did get an early opportunity to get away, as he had a 1.8sec gap after i'd slide exiting that 2nd to last corner (held it, but lost 2 places) but somehow the other driver and myself both caught him and gave me chance to get by both, before eventually screwing up. We probably could have gone for hours like that too :D

Did have one scare though, i'd just got ahead of them both about 3 laps to go with an undercut into the hairpin, he got a better exit on T3 and i covered for T4 which he seemed much more settled through, we went through it side by side, and just at the kink on the backstraight i see his front wheel zoom into view and im looking at the underside of his chassis as he's flicked into the air, i paniced as no sooner had that happened, than my right wheel was inside his car, i lifted and turned away, and it ended up costing me a 2nd place too. Seems nothing happened on his end, neither of us had dmg and both got 0x for it, but cos i saw it i reacted and it took me a good lap to feel confident the car wasnt bent etc.

Also hit 3.40 Class D now, so 'C' class awaits. Only taken 5wks too, expected it to take a lot longer to get to that stage. Im also getting far more comfortable in the skip, im not sure if its the fact that i know these tracks well IRL, so even though ive not done many laps around Brands GP, and far far less around Oulton (TOCA days!) but i think that has been a big benefit to familiarising myself with the car, cos the tracks arent a mystery to me.
Not sure how i'll do on Zandvoort, but now ive grown a decent understanding of the car it should help as i'll only really need to learn the track, not both!

Hmm, Isnt really any of the 'C' series which im bothered about, the World Sports Car Series seems fun, i wouldnt mind trying the Riley but thats the only series its used in. Meanwhile, the RUF has that, RUF cup, and GT3.
Guess its a similar story in the other types which appeal to me, like the Prototype & GT Challenge - GT40, C6R and HPD.

GT3 Challenge and Proto/GT Challenge are the ones i'd want to be doing mainly though, i'd like to do GT3 in the Mclaren, but it seemed inferior against the RUF, let alone this Z4!
Really wish they'd let you have say a 1h test with un-purchased content, one a month. Just to get to understand whether you like it or not.

I'll be doing another Skippy season anyway, should be a lot better when im more familiar with things.

My brother DIK loves the skippy and staying with it even though he is class B licence.

He has been going well at Brands I think and is faster than me in the skippy.

Just upgraded to an Obutto Revolution I got second hand.

Triple 27inch Asus screens, T500 RS Wheel, peddles and shifter

Nice little keyboard tray that folds in and out.

Really comfortable and works well as my main desk when not racing without having to remove everything.

Welcome to the R3v club :D
I got mine 2mo back, always wanted a proper racing seat setup, but never had the room for something that big and so dedicated to 1 purpose, and thats where the Obbuto chairs make a difference, they're very user friendly and multi-purpose. The main push was because i wanted something for Star Citizen, somewhere a HOTAS could go, then switching to KB&M for fps stuff, and this manages that perfectly, with my wheel still mounted there not obstructing any kind of gaming.

Back to iRacing though, i really hate that MX5 track, just feels horrible, esp T7-8 before returning onto the oval.
My iR seems to be at a point where im always around 8/12 in the top seed, with very few mistakes happening. My first attempt i started last, followed along for 3 laps waiting and watching from 1sec back, and just had to get involved cos it seemed like waiting for mistakes wasnt worth it. Got onto the tail of a 3 car group entering the oval, got inside for the final banking, alongside the next guy under braking and the car ahead pushed to much, walloped the outer exit of T1 right across my path into the other wall and parked on the inside of T2 , i braked but got rear ended, my car was blowing huge smoke, and the other 2 went on fine, incl they guy who slammed me into the wrecked car.
Still managed 6th, but very annoying as it would have opened me to 5th if i'd got passed the crash, and 1 retired too.

Horrible track, just like last weeks, pathetic little nothing tracks bundled in to make a quota of free content, which nobody in their right mind would buy otherwise.

Nice pics BL, I do wish Silverstone was closer for stuff like this, although in saying that Oulton Park is only about 45min away and i was fast asleep though 90% of their timetable :D But when i see the odd endurance race held at Silverstone it seems like it'd be a cracking day out. I cant say i'd be interested in who won, as i dont follow it, but its great to be able to roam around the track and watch the action from different places and enjoy the racing for what it is, rather than enjoyment being decided by who wins.

The Renault World Series event they've done at Donington (not sure if they're still doing it, its been a few years) were great for this.

I was at Donnington for the Historic Festival in April, it's a really good day out. The pits are completely open to the public, even the garages.

I'll post some pics if you're interested.

I've been to Brands Hatch a few times too, it's a long drive for me, but it's a good circuit to spectate from.

Hey guys, this is for the t500 owners in here, my pedals are getting more loose since i last posted and i took a quick vid to try and show what i mean, crappy camera work and my god awful voice probably dont help your viewing pleasure, but id be interested to know if any of yours are like mine.
I have a feeling im going to have to fight with thrustmaster to see it as a problem, but it really is, the pedals have zero feel due to the slack, and when pressing the sides of the pedal arms will catch the side metal railings :(

Sometimes the pedal catches on the side metal and gives a really nasty and notchy feeling, which i guess affects the concentration a bit, others it just seems as its not giving full motion on the pots, but only notice that when im racing flat out and not paying attention to the bars.
