Nobody driving in the Grand Touring Cup?

I do its still active.

Anyway raced GT3 last night pointless exercise you have Z4 drivers who think they have a god given right to pass you when you are driving a RUF *Even if you are around teh same pace as them* After a few laps they realise im not a slowy and give me a bit of respect. But for as long as I can hold them off one tiny mistake and there 3 minutes up the road :(

Did a 70 minute zandvoort also dived in at the deep end no practice whats so ever and no setup just dropped on "my" baseline setup and drove. What must have been the cleanest GT3 race I have ever seen specially at Zandvoort its a very easy track to rear end someone. Had a god 10 laps of driving with a z4 guy who just couldn't get past me.

I found the RUF to be a lot more competitive but still its nearly 1.5 seconds off the pace on average. With such imbalnce everytime I drive that RUF I'm killing my IR as theres people in that Z4 who I would kill last season or in equal cars. But it is fun specially when you can push a few of those z4's

Recon I could get into the 35's at Zandvoort. 34's was very easily done in Z4 recon 33's is doable in the z4.

Keep an eye out on the iRacing forums. I got mine 2nd hand from there last month. I wouldn't go for the Ozone personally, the R3V is much better.

How much did you get it for second hand I badley need one. It drives me nuts having to get teh wheel out every time I play and when I brake I end up in the bathroom :D Going to get worse in a few weeks when I change the office from carpet to wooden flooring. I end up about 10ft away from my desk after every stamp on the brake, When playing in the Herman Miller. Could really do witha cockpit :D

I said earlier in the thread that I thought the GT3 seemed to have cleaned up a lot.

Is it anything to do with the automatic disqualification if you get too many incidents in one race? Or has that always been there?

I dont have the Sonoma Raceway track and not sure if I should buy it for this week of the Skippy, is it a bad track for a beginner?

Personally I do not enjoy the track. It is very difficult, lots elevation changes and blind corners. It punishes you for being slightly offline and there are only a few moments a lap to 'rest'. The fact that there has only been 5 official races today speaks for itself.

Good luck, what race you doing?

I did the Mx5 cup at summit point, which is luckily my best track. I manged to finish 2nd by just staying on the track (didn't qualify, stated 10th), wasn't particularly fast but all you need to be is consistent at the lower levels. The biggest plus was that I only got 1x.

I've only been playing iRacing since round 2 (06/05), and got into the Skippy for Oulton Park (20/05). Takes me quite a while to get used to a car, and tracks too, so swapping is bad for me because i forget all the bits of info, particularly if its been a few weeks or longer. I do 1hr offline, 1hr online to get used to others and see their lines, but then i'll do some TT cos while my times will be around the 102-3% mark, they're often surrounded by spins, off-tracks or just poor laps. TT helps focus me on consistency.

So thats what ive done for Sonoma, and once you've got a rhythm going, its a fantastic track, but it definitely requires practice to get there, and a loose setup helps tons, something i absolutely hate, but if you start with a regular ARB and start dialing it down and getting used to it, you'll never go back, its like the car is full of fuel and just wont turn in.

In 2 of my races today, i passed someone at T7 (far end hairpin) around the outside, but my best move, was around T4 (slow right hander before the carousel) where i went around the outside of TWO cars :D I almost passed 2 around T1 of Zandvoort the other week too, but the front guy gassed it too early and almost pushed me of and had to react. Know i'd have got him on the exit though.

So far, its actually been the tracks which ive done a couple of laps and mumbled 'colourful words' at which have been the most fun and rewarding. I purposely left Bathurst off my purchase list when i got into the skippy, cos i dont fancy it for racing (great track, like Nordschleife, but so tricky to race around) but now im thinking i should get it.

I've also hit Class 4.44, contacted iRacing to ask if they'd refund the RUF (wasnt impressed with it tbh) and just bought the Z4 (which hopefully they'll nerf a little for season 3 - though i'll welcome all the help i can get!) with the intention of doing B races (C 4+) in order to get my B license and try and fit in some GT3 rounds next season.
My iRating is increasing too, 2170 currently.

I've just done a qualifying session at Zandvoort for the GT3 series. Managed to knock a few tenths off my best offline practice time. Other guys in the session were in the 1:33's while I'm in the mid 1:35's but my optimum is a high 1:34. I'm pretty sure I could scrape into the '34's with more practice. I'll see what a race brings over the weekend.

Let us know if you get a refund on the Ruf.

Yeah i got the refund yesterday:
Paul,
We typically do not offer refunds or exchanges on cars or tracks purchased but as a one time courtesy, we have deactivated your access to the RUF and manually added 11.95 iRacing credits to your account that you can now use toward future purchases of cars, tracks, subscription renewals and hosted sessions. You should now see the additional credits added in your My Account Home page in the Credits section.
Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.
Thank you.

I dont see how they can refuse personally, certainly if there is very little activity with it and say 7 days passed. Its not our fault that they lock the content away and dont give us the opportunity to sample the product before purchasing.
I wouldnt mind if they did something like selling 'Test Drive' passes, where you paid say $2 to try that car in an offline environment for 7 days or something, and if you buy it then you get that knocked off the purchase.
I wouldnt be impressed if i didnt like it and i'd wasted $2, but short of offering an open pass, where you basically committed say $5 to a purchase, like buying credit, and you can test the other cars and use it towards an actual purchase.
That i'd have no problem with. I have no problem with paying full price for it, but if i dont like it, then i dont see why im not entitled to ask for a refund. As UK customers we're entitled to that, and they're obligated to abide by the terms of the UK market if they want to sell to UK customers. Enforcing that is another matter, as we see with Steam refusing refunds under all but the most extreme circumstances.

Bought the Z4 after doing the Skippy races to get me into the 4+ and i have to say, that car is a heck of a lot of fun, and sooo much easier and more forgiving than the RUF. I did 11 laps offline, and only crashed once (too eager exiting the slow hairpin before the 2 joining track bits for the other layouts), i wasnt particularly quick but to go straight out and have no issues on a track i only know from watching DTM and the Skippy doing the short layout, is very good for me.

Did a TT run:
http://members.iracing.com/membersite/member/EventResult.do?&subsessionid=11231119&custid=38352

1:35.097 best lap, with my slowest being 1:36.266 (last lap was 1:46, spun but stopped it going off, same place as mentioned above!) so to do 17 laps, not the fastest, but within 1.2sec is very good for me, i dont usually achieve that level of consistency especially on a track which is fairly new to me and is a bit of a rollercoaster.
Infact, while its not a true representation of much, im 20th in the TT's (all divisions, 10th in Div2) albeit 1.8sec behind the fastest, but it seems like its far too gentle, and im still using TC4 and 3 DF, which im sure will make me faster and screw up more, but im a little surprised. I couldnt find a pole prediction and lap time gradings to tell where i'd place, but i dont think 1.8sec as an avg (which isnt far off my slowest laps too) is too bad. I bet i'd be struggling to break into 1:36s in the RUF though.

Well, i almost went to bed. Instead i decided to have a crack at the 3am race :D

I hadnt realised this was a longer race, 70min :( I had like 8min to figure out what fuel was required to get to the finish, then with all that to contend with, i realised that the setup i had wasnt going to allow me to put much fuel in! I couldnt figure out how to raise the ride height (and wasnt going to start messing with a setup) so i just put as much in as it'd allow, and accepted i'd have to pit earlier than i'd have liked, and see if i could put more fuel in then (which i could - which seems stupid!)

Everything was going so well. Then on lap 11 my sound goes really quiet! I didnt know if this was engine damage or what it was, so i basically moved over and tried to assess if the car was okay, and it seemed to be fine. So i cranked the volume up a bit. What was weird is that it was iRacing which went quiet, i use GearSound and i was getting the beeps at the regular sound, except now it was twice as loud cos i needed to hear the car (and the beeps were at 8000rpm not 8500ish so useless).
I carried on, but it cost me a few places and 7sec on similar laps.

When it came to the pitstop, i just tabbed out and closed GearSound and turned the volume up more. What i also didnt realise was that I didnt need to bother getting tyres. I thought 70min race might require it, so when i came out and everyone had pitted, everyone was well ahead of me, incl those i know i was faster than.

Aside from the audio issue and the confusion that caused me, everything went really well for 65min... and then penultimate lap i was pushing to catch the RUF i'd had behind me for the first 11 laps and let through during the sound issues, wasnt catching enough with time running out so i pushed a little harder exiting a corner and wrote the front end off. 90 degree steering from half way around the lap. 1m30ish stop for repairs, no fuel or tyres, and when i exit the leader parked up just before the pit exit, and my car is still driving the same as before. So i had to do a lap turning 90' right just to go straight. Fortunately it didnt cost me any places, and the only one it could have cost me was a guy just behind the race winner, and as i was over the line in my stall, he couldnt reach me :D

Absolutely loved it though, never felt like it was a problem, never had to pedal jam to save it, it was just a joy to drive from start to almost finish ;)
I also managed an unassisted 1:34.892 towards the end, and following others helped confirm the ideal racing lines and taught me 1 i hadnt considered which i think helped a little.

I assumed i needed 4 races and/or TT's, but it looks like its OR, so i'll probably do 3 more races over the weekend instead of 2 more TT's.

Im in love with this car/series, its just so much fun.

Considering i dont consider myself a particularly consistent drive, and im prone to making a mistake or 2 unless ive done a considerable number of laps around there, this really shouldnt be a series which fits for me, cos i'll make a mistake or 2 in a 15-25min race.

I just feel so safe and comfortable in it, and it doesnt make me groan about 'iceRacing' because it feels pretty planted and thats the first car ive felt like they've got it right. Granted, ive only driven the MX5, Skippy, and a handful of laps in the RUF and fewer in the CTS-V, but i've read numerous reports of people who've driven an MX5 almost at Cup Spec, and the actual Skippy, and they feel so much more stable and less slidey. Thats whats killing me in races, ice-slides.
At least in the Z4 i know its my fault when i spin, because i've gunned it out of a corner or locked up and lost it.

Anyway, just did another 3am race, much lower SoF (1539) but had tons of fun. Started 11th, did pretty much the same as last night which was following people scrapping and seeing what came of it. After 2x 75min races i still dont think ive actually overtaken someone. Everyone just spun out right infront of me (didnt even need to ram them that hard ;)) so got fairly fortunate, and the 1 guy i had to chase down pitted when i was right on his tail. Ended up bringing it home on the podium.

Had 3 incidents, lap 1 into the Audi chicaine/hairpin thing and a Macca didnt seem too fussed about braking early, i had to swerve out of it and got a 0x and a 1x for it. Lap 3 was cutting that same corner, following someone who was overtaking and so i looked for the move, the guy backed off, but i cut it a little too much just making sure i didnt go in too deep. 3rd was lap 6... same place, but me being greedy :D

Tried a different setup 30min before the race, this time a race setup (i'd got a Q set last night) which i was able to do high 1:34 after about 6 laps on a full tank. I was going to empty the fuel to see how it'd be on low fuel, but stupid tech issues stopped that!
In the end i just went with it, and it certainly started to feel pretty loose about 2/5th distance, but even as it got progressively looser it was never a problem.
Set a PB lap 13, 1:34.785
Beat it on the penultimate lap, 1:34.784! 0.001 faster, with 31 laps less fuel (fresher rubber too i guess)

Its been a long time since ive enjoyed racing this much, we're talking Live For Speed 2004-2009 sort of stuff. If i could replay any part of my life, thats when i'd go back to, had so much fun those days. Pathetic really :D, but true.

Im a tad nervous for future rounds, i just hope they're as fun as Zandvoort, one of 3-4 tracks i'd have said i'd be terrible around :D

Sounds just like my Tuesday night 1am Gt3 race at Zandvoort where I was just going to go to bed then thought another quick 30 minutes race at Silver-stone wont hurt. Now I've finally got a setup.

:( it turned into a Zandy race at 70minutes distance, I had no set no idea how much fuel I'd need. Got placed 5th surrounded by z4's GULP...

Did pretty well till about lap 23 when I had to pit early due to not being able to put any more fuel in. Changed tires costing me anotehr 20 seconds :( forgot ot untick them. Then I come out the pits the idiot in 5th starts going nuts as i had the cheek to hold him up by .2 of a second. Typical Yank! Typical Z4 driver....Not a clue.

But yer next time mate SPRING PERCH and tire pressures !!!!! best way to change ride height.

Thanks for the advice, i'll take a look at that.

What ive started doing now for every race is getting onto the grid:
F4 - dont refuel (obviously put the correct fuel in for GT3 etc)
F5 - dont change tyres x4

But ive started doing that from times when ive had damage and pitted to fix it, and having to drive and cancel everything with a knackered car is a deathwish, so ive just got into a habit of disabling everything on the grid. I tried to create a macro for it, just press 1 button and let it do everything, but it never worked :(

Still haven't raced this week.

Twice over the weekend the raced I planned to joined was unavailable because my internet went down. Supposed to be an engineer coming tomorrow to sort it out, but I'm not holding my breathe. Virgin Media were rubbish when I left three years ago and it looks like they haven't got any better in the mean time. When I do have a connection it's either dial up slow or my ping is over 500ms, neither of which is conducive to a decent experience for online gaming.

Yeah, it must suck when that happens. I havent had that issue yet fortunately, its either been about 26 in there or split.

I decided to qualify earlier, managed a 1:34.6 which i was happy with, anything reflective of what i'd be able to do during the race was my goal, just so im not stuck behind 5-6 people i know im faster than and feel like im tip-toeing around.

Just did the 11pm race, started 6th, finished 5th. I also remembered *during* (why focus on the race you're in, ey!) the race i had passed someone yesterday, the guy i mentioned where we both passed him into the Audi chicaine/hairpin. Well i added 1 more to the list today :D and thanks to backmarkers, even though im not racing to pass them, it certainly helps, and i feel more confident attempting passes now.

What surprised me was that i pitted a lap before the leaders, i'd expected to either go as far or possibly 1 extra which I put down to not using the throttle as early as i probably could, and effectively feathering out longer instead of getting on the gas. I ended up coming in a lap before everyone, which i realised i should have done the previous lap, so it worked out in the end, as i didnt want to be in a chain of cars braking into the pits and end up shunting someone on braking too soon and someone shunt me. I had exactly 1 lap in the tank, so pretty sure it would have spluttered that lap if i'd continued.

There wasnt much activity in the race for me, a lot of trying to chase down 4th, and when i did i just couldnt get close enough cos it felt like my entry onto the straight was terrible every time. Partly aero loss, partly me driving badly i guess.
Got side by side with him when he came out of the pits but didnt get enough from the outlap to hold it around the outside.
Top 6 finished within 11sec of each other, which i think is pretty impressive for a 70min race. Set a PB on lap 15, 1:34.456 too, which was a surprise. I managed quite a lot of laps in the 34s (27 of 44) and the majority of that was without slipstream, if anything i think i could have gone faster in the laps i had slipstream, if i didnt have him there.

Im now C 4.97, iR 2270.
I fully expected to go down in iR from 1800 to be honest, but i think i could probably level out around 2500-2700.

I've also got a HP Slate7, a 7" Android tab, so i'll be looking into mounting that somehow and adding some iRacing functionality it'd be nice to see fuel levels to see how things are going and stuff like that. I've never had any Android (or iOS for that matter) device so it'll be nice being able to have some of the apps i've never been able to use :D

I shouldn't worry too much about fuel loads. Only the alien drivers are consistent enough for fuel loads to matter and even then it would only be in the F1 car.

The last race I joined was full of Australians on a EU sever. I hit one that disappeared, which was happening every 15 odd seconds and after that I called it a day. I only did 4 laps, bit annoyed at my safety rating going down by 0.14.
