iRacing

Also note if you focus on a series like gt3 that a few tracks will repeat every season, so following seasons are usually cheaper. The initial outlay is expensive but now bar the odd new track each season, it’s just the annual fee (which is usually 25% off around Black Friday)

yeah tbh im a mainly GT3, so thats good to know

so where generally are the best discounts to be found genuinely as im finding loads everywhere and not 100% if they legit, theres a sub to iracing, so im assuming you have to go direct or maybe steam for that and the tracks and cars is where all these places come in, so if its just gt3 nothing else where is the best trusted place as a bit of a minefield out there tbh

You can get iRacing sub either direction or through steam (but sign up and do it via motorsport uk as by far cheapest way for new driver to get a years sub)

As for tracks and cars, you do it via the app.

Did anyone do the Nurburgring 24 hour race this weekend?

I've always wanted to do a team event, but don't really know anyone that I can race with. I responded to a random request for team members on Reddit and ended up hanging out with a small group of really awesome people. I was the only Brit, there was someone from Canada, US, Finland, Poland, and Australia.

I was one of the lower rated drivers, I drove about 18 laps in total I think, 3ish hours. My second stint was really good, no incidents and I was getting sub 9 minute times in the BMW GT4. The first stint I had a few wall scrapes but nothing major. The stress of driving knowing you have people watching and relying on you got to me a bit at first.

It was nice dipping in and out of the chat over the 24 hours. We ended up 8th out of 10 in our class, not great, but other drivers had some big incidents that resulted in long repairs. Overall it was a great experience, the +2.0 SR gain was nice too!

I completed in my first N24 this weekend (Timeslot 2 2nd split). We ran the race as a 4 man (2 Scots and 2 Yanks) which worked very well for the stint plan and sleep. We are 4 GTP drivers, not GT3. Our iRatings are reasonably good for GTP drivers (5.3k, 4.0k, 3.7k and 3.3k) but we're probably closer to an average of 3.0k in GT3 pace. We qualified P18 and made up 5 places on the first half lap but then 2 idiots coming together caused us damage. It wasn't bad enough to pit but the car did have some serious toe issues. it was 2 minutes of optionals which we opted not to take. We just took whatever repairs got done whilst refuelling.

That 1 incident was the only 1 we had all race. Ruthless consistency ultimately got us back to being a stones through away from P3 at the end. Top 10 was my initial goal but to come so close to a special event podium was disappointing.

8:21.417, 8:21.616, 8:21.643 and 8:22.134 where the average lap times of our drivers (these obviously include pitstop times) so we were a very balanced car in terms of speed.

Also Scary, if you are looking for a team for future events (and your iRating is 2.5k of above) our team would welcome you in.

Buying new non mainstream tracks always feels like a bit of a waste of money. Take Mugello as an example. The track is awesome and has been with us for over a year now. However, I think only thrice has it been used in the popular series.

The Bend will go the same way imo.

The GT3's are so much better now, maybe a smidgen too fast but not enough to be a problem. Tyres are night and day difference to before. No need for me to have LMU installed anymore.

Can you explain what the difference is please? I don't really understand all the technical stuff so not really sure what has made it better. An ELI5 reply would be much appreciated :p

So the problem with the GT3s for a few years now has been the tyre model. The most common issue people have with them is that the tyres were incredibly sensitive to heat buildup, so any slide would effectively ruin your tyres/pace for the next few corners until they had cooled down. You had to basically nanny the car around in the immediate aftermath of a slide.

This resulted in the optimum driving style being all about ultra smooth inputs and never hussling the car around corners... the quickest way to drive them was almost under the limit because the tyres would overheat and fall apart as soon as you pushed them hard and got a little sideways.

Now the tyres are much more like other sims and real life in that you can catch a slide and still have decent grip immediately afterwards, you can also now catch slides that were previously impossible for anyone to catch.

Also on the old GT3 tyres you had to avoid constantly going deep into the ABS under heavy braking because it would cause your tyres to overheat quicker which would then ultimately kill your pace later in the race. In real life GT3 drivers lean on the ABS heavily, this is now more viable in iRacing than it was previously due to the tyres no longer being so temperature sensitive.

They just drive much better than before, no more 'wtf was that' spins.

That said they have only been out for a day, as always people will find new flaws over time but the driveability of the cars has improved by a huge margin compared to the previous tyre model.

edit: I've only tested the Porsche, Acura, McLaren and Merc so far
