Iraq Campaign Medal

I know that's the general consensus, and a bottle of the dew would be nice but even I have to realise that going out there has some consequences, I'm not infantry so I'm not as worried as some, but there is going to be a lot of stress. Especially on my gf/fiancee.

Good luck out there chap.

You'll never forget the smell of Iraq I'm telling you ;)

should also say congrats too tbh....

(was a bit drunk when I posted last night - I just didn't realise that civvies got these too)

I like how you're not telling us exactly what you do... we know you do IT and that you're not part of EDS (whatever that is). So come on spill the beans... or is it a secret? ;)

Congrats

Unless you’re not telling us something, then you went out to Iraq for one thing and one thing only £££ so you got what you went for, imo you deserve nothing more for your time out there, I got my Iraq medal with Rosette so I know how it feels and how it smells, I know how it feels to pull a trigger, or command a regiment of AS90s, civvies out in Iraq and Afghan get their thanks in the pay packet.

I’m not saying your services are not required infact far from it, but my medals mean something to me, they remind me of mates who will never be forgotten and when I have the opportunity to wear them I do it with pride.

Hope your a serving soldier :). Some what undermines the efforts of those who are other wise! Eoither way you deserve it but...

(I start Sandhurst TOMMOROW!)

My job wasn't top secret I just did every possible IT job going out there so listing what I did would be a) boring and b) lenthy.

I have lots of different reasons why I went out there, the money helped but it wasn't as good as you'd think.

Its a proper medal :D

I'm not a serving soldier no, never was. I was offered the opportunity via the company I worked for at the time to go out there.

End of the day I didn't ask or expect the medal, I'm happy they have put me up for it and was just wanted to express my happyness.

Well either way well done :).

fair enough but I can't say I'm particularly impressed by it tbh... contractors are generally fairly well rewarded and for the most part a lot of them (the non PMC ones) just stay well within the perimeter fence I'm not sure I'm too happy at the thought of some of the ones I encountered getting a gong for their troubles - anyway I guess at least you had the balls to go out there which is more than most people tbh...

Give him a break, anyone putting themselves in theatre, regardless of if it's within the perimeter of base, is risking their own life doing so and therefore deserves a medal. Grunts who are outside the wire and then moan about it chose the wrong job!

Well done fella, feels good eh? :D
