Is Amazon delivery getting worse?

Not Amazon but DHL..

Germany DHL -> UK DHL -> Parcelforce

DHL don't state it's with Parcelforce or that it's pending customs tax.. I had to google DHL and the status for someone on reddit to indicate it was with parcelforce. No Email, No SMS, no update and option to pay online as part of the delivery..

Now the funny bit.. once Parcelforce get it.. they MAIL you a LETTER to request that customs tax is paid with the letter having a 17 digit code that only exists in the paper letter they send you.. once you have the letter... you then have to go online, call to pay the tax (not a problem) or go to the delivery depot to pay...

The payment request goes to the address. They don't care who pays.. just it goes to the same address as the parcel, I assume as a substitute of a delivery like the delivery note.. So someone can't simply pay online and take the parcel before it's delivered.

No wonder parcel force is dying off..

Not noticed any difference at all with deliveries using prime. It's improved if anything. The quality of the products in general though has gone downhill. Many categories seem flooded with cheap, Chinese manufactured products that clog up the search results. You have to be more specific now. This is probably due to the ever increasing Amazon stocking fee for business that seems to favour said products. Ebay is far worse still as there are so many fake items listed, again mostly from China. They can't keep up with removing them and more than one employee confirmed this with me. Entire categorys of items ruined by fakes.

I'm not surprised their quality has dipped.

A couple of weeks ago I saw a guy in a 1 series BMW doing Amazon deliveries, his missus in the passenger seat.

How do I know he was doing Amazon deliveries? Well, I walked by I could see that his boot was full of the very distinctive Amazon packages/envelopes - and he was digging through this to find the specific one that he needs to deliver.

As an Amazon customer... that's really not how I expect to get my stuff delivered.
Same. Call to mobile, can’t find front door because it’s rear parking only, you need to walk to front door in a path. So I come out back only to find some lady in a new looking SUV with loads of Amazon parcels in the passenger seat.

50% of our Amazon packages now get thrown over the back garden gate, it’s gotten worse and worse over the years. Basically, a proper courier finds our front door whist Amazon don’t half the time. I guess a lot have never used Google Maps. I give them all a pass because Amazon are really efficient, good at replacing missing items (and quick) with zero fuss. Also these drivers get paid nothing.

As for DPD, Jesus wept I’ve had some run-ins with them. I ask them to walk to our front door if they call.

Ordered a desk from Amazon on Tuesday at 14:55, received despatch notification on Wednesday 10:58 via Royal Mail. Package departed an Amazon facility in Rochester, Kent at 20:13 Wednesday.

Made the 104 mile trip down to Portsmouth and onto the ferry to Jersey on Thursday morning. After a 9 hour sailing across the channel, ferry arrived in Jersey at 18:12 Thursday.

Package received at Postal HQ in Jersey at 20:49 Thursday evening. Package processed at Postal HQ on Friday morning and sent out for delivery at 10:24. Package delivered 13:16 Friday afternoon.

So I ordered Tuesday and received Friday not bad considering it had to cross the channel.

So Its a mix for me

* Deliveries next day always arrive by 6pm often its 13:00 (says 8pm)
* it always arrives on day I set, however this was much better after setting amazon preferred days, its almost like they hold slots or calculate better once set up
* Before 1PM generally gives me it arriving by 9AM & its free

My wife (part of my account)
* deliveries days are sometimes delayed
* it arrives late (8pm)
* before 1pm is the same but normally around 11

I wonder if its based on what you buy & which warehouse it comes from.

I usually get my deliveries at 11am to 2pm

ordered a few items in the last couple of weeks worth £150 and they now need code verification at the door.

That's something new for me anyway, used to be £500+ items only.

Says delivered but not. Frustrating because we actually needed the item over the weekend, instead now I have play the ‘wait 24 hours’ and knock on neighbours doors game. And before that one item has an issue apon dispatch so they refunded after 48 hours. Definitely gotten worse.

More I think about I’ve come to realise I get small items sent to a locker next to work instead of home, probably because half the time they either get thrown over the rear gate or they call me. A locker they can’t **** it up. Can’t do that for large items and weekends though. It used to be super super amazing but this year it’s gone downhill.

I've been a customer of Amazon for years and used to love the Prime subscription service for fast deliveries that arrive when they are supposed to.

Recently though, the estimate delivery windows are never met e.g. 10am - 1pm estimated delivery, now its changed to before 10pm.
Maybe it's a local delivery office things but in the past week there have been multiple items missing the delivery days and something that was supposed to be out of delivery today isnt. Instead i've had to call and cancel them and go out locally to buy at a much higher cost.

I notice Amazon have also added Hermes to their list of delivery companies (!?)

Anyone else having similar issues? Hopefully just my area (Leeds city center)
Nope. Amazon's entire business model depends on delivering your cheap, Chinese made crap ASAP and they remain consistently great in doing so.

In the past year I would guess 90% of deliveries have been late or not on time.
Now though, I call and complain and have recently got a months free prime membership (now 3 times) and two free items - not delivered at all, Amazon sent another then the first arrived 3-4 days later. When I called Amazon they said to keep it as goodwill.

I’d rather just have a service thats on time, but its something I suppose. All the support people are just scripted to say “Please accept our apologies”…

I had that twice, once my neighbor showed up with it later in the day and the other time I found my parcel outside someone else’s door. Neither were Amazons fault it was the postman.

Not had many problems given the amount of utter rubbish the better half insists on buying at times only had 1 thing misplaced but that was easily claimed back. Only times it can get a little messy if the courier is external to Amazon but when I bought my standing desk it arrived days earlier than listed so no complaints from me.

Ordered a Bosch storage box case which needs the inserts also so three separate items in total, one was delivered on Sunday by DPD then the other later on by an Amazon driver on Sunday and the box itself should have been delivered on Sunday but now is arriving Tuesday.

Not really that bothered but wanted to get organised on Sunday so a bit miffed at the service and that all three items shipped separately.

The worst part about Amazon is they ship stuff in the least amount of packaging possible.

Which means shipping items that need packaging in a brown envelope, and it gets battered. Useless.

I recently had that, bought a grinder the other day, and it arrived in its own packaging.

First time I've had that.

And why, when I've just bought a grinder, does Amazon spam me with adverts to buy another grinder!?

Really grinds my gears.

I just had some loo roll delivered in a box bigger than my first flat. They could have just sent it as is.

I ordered some CDs from Amazon last week and they were despatched for delivery last Friday. Shortly after the expected delivery window had started I noticed that the package had been delivered. To next door. With the receptionist. The package would easily have fit through my letterbox. Next door is only a few meters away as I haven't yet won the Euromillions to be able to buy a country mansion (yet! ;-)).

I started a chat with Amazon and they kept asking if the package had been delivered. I said that wasn't my question. I wanted to know why, when my front door has the house number on it and its literally a few meters away from the address the package was delivered to, was the package not delivered to me? After work I walked the few steps to next door and introduced myself to the new neighbours. When I came back I pushed the package through my letterbox proving that all it would have taken was a few seconds to walk past next door, put the package through the letterbox and it was delivered to me. One of the strangest Amazon deliveries I've had, if not the strangest.
