Is East London a dangerous place to live?

There really isn't much nice left in London. A few good spots south of the river and the typical rich spots but 90% of it is ruined and every time I go down there it is like going into another world.

Another 30-40 years and the whole UK will be same. The snowball has already started and I cannot really see myself retiring here.

Problem is bigger the gap between rich and the poorer more ruff things will get.
I lived in Johannesburg, South Africa for 9 years and have experienced what it is like when people really get desperate.

I dont think its as simple as "rich and poor" anymore, at least not in western european countries.
Its tribal, its cultural, its basic human urges and violence. Importing cultures with completely different sets of rules and moralities that clash so abruptly.
You cant "housetrain" them into falling into line and becoming a part of a society that really, honestly, doesn't want them, Sweden at least......
Just throw money at the problem, try and ignore everything exploding and getting raped.... Where's the "this if fine" dog.gif

Im not a nazi im barely right wing. I Just think its not truly possible to integrate people like this. What do you gain from it? Cleaners? Kitchen staff like me? :P
its not really worth the greif is it.

I know a friend from South Africa who told me that crime is so bad that you dare not even stop your vehicle at the traffic lights

Wealthy people who can will disappear into their guarded, gated communities and let everyone else just get on with it.

True, at night you treat them like stop signs. I moved there in 92 just as apartheid finished and left in 2001, during those 9 years things changed so much. Now it's much much worse.
UK is lucky they don't have many guns otherwise things would be worse.

Thats more south Africa than London though..... We don't do that yet do we? :p You just move a couple of stops down the train line lol
That works at the moment...
Luckily I'm a 100 miles from London, and when I do have to go it's M4/A4 all the way to Kensington so miss the awful parts, and just have to put up with the twonks there instead. :p
I can certainly see the mess other cities are turning into though, only have to drive through some parts of Leicester, or Birmingham, or...

People just don't want to work for things now it seems.

get a machete and just take what you want...

It's not like police patrol the streets anymore like they used to

I'm a Londoner and I can say this is 101% accurate. I walk to the tube station and get mugged every 5m, thankfully I too no longer wear a watch and only wear a plastic ring as these muggers only care about watches and metal rings.
I dread the day they get desperate and start checking for metal rings elsewhere, will probably have to travel in my birthday suit so they know I'm not hiding anything. Not sure where I'll put my phone, wallet and tablet, maybe I'll start training my glutes so I've always got my hands free.

in case it wasn't obvious..... /s

Wasn't it SA where you could get flamethrowers fitted under the car to shoot out flames at the press of a button, because car jacking's had become soo bad?
I've been to SA about 4 times (have family and friends there) and I've asked this question several times. Haven't yet found anyone who has even heard of this. I think a crazy inventor fitted them to his car, go on the news but it was never really as thing

Am sure it'll be a lot quicker than 30-40 years tbh.
Travelling around and being involved with many different areas social media groups, the rise in crime you once see in the cities, is now plaguing many smaller cities and towns, well outside of the capital and probably similar to other areas of the UK.

"The device was not banned (as is sometimes reported), but the high price tag at 3,900 rand ($655)[1] limited its market and made it unprofitable. By 2001, only a few hundred had been sold, and the device was taken off the market by Fourie, who instead started marketing a less expensive pocket-sized "personal flamethrower".[4]"

It was a thing. I vividly remember being in a post office as a kid waiting in the queue and seeing the ad on the telly, must've been around 1995-ish. It was definitely an entrepeneur who tried to bring the system to market but it never took off, the rumours for this were that someone had one installed in the car, blew some flames at a hijacker and drove off, so the hijacker shot at the car and hit the tank resulting in the driver ending up in hospital.

Nowadays hijackers are a lot smarter and will dress up as cops, obstruct roads, hide at traffic lights, pretend they're broken down, etc. If they want your car or its contents, they will stop at nothing to get it, and if that means killing you and your entire family, then so be it.

Yea many towns are like this now. My grandparents lived near Bolton and back in the 80s/90s it was always quite poor in places, but it wasn't too bad and most people were friendly. Now it's a ********.

In the early 00s a load of male migrants from Africa got moved in to a house on the street after the previous owner died, there was maybe 12 of them in there (3 bedrooms). The house went from well maintained to looking like a crack den. Then shocker... people on the street started getting their houses robbed when it had never happened before.

London is fine, I've lived off Green Lanes in NE London for nearly 20 years, never been robbed, attacked etc. Sure there are guys that are obviously something to do with drugs on the streets, but they don't bother anyone, I guess unless I want to start selling drugs myself - if people stopped taking drugs they'd be out of a job, but guess what... If there are problems it's not down to Sadiq. The Tories made thousands of police redundant and took 30% of council budgets away (where did that money go??). London has always been a city of immigrants and so has the UK...romans, anglo saxons, french, people from the commonwealth, you can't blame people for wanting a better life, and most of the people who move here want just that.
