Is my living room too dark?

The only thing wrong with that coffee table is that it is too far away from the sofa! How are you supposed to put your feet up? And do you have to physically get up everytime you want a sip of your brew? :p

Looks fine to me, but I happen to like that sort of colour anyway. Have to agree with a couple of other comments on lighter cushions breaking up the one colour, could be worth a try.

All that said, your missus obviously want's a new coffee table. No amount of convincing her she doesn't need one will work. She's a woman. :D

ok, here's a pic without the coffee table, and one of the rear. Better without ?

here's the rear to get a better feel for the open plan feel of the living space.

It just looks like too much stuff in one place to me, Colours are ok but then I'm a man and tbh I worry more about the alignment of speakers and calibration of the Tv rather than the colour of stuff I sit on or which holds my beer.

Put it this way.... he's lucky to have speakers in there.

Moreover all I see a battle ground and he's losing the war. Might as well retreat, dump the hifi whilst he can ;)

Personally I'd ditch the rug, not the coffee table. My reasoning:

1) The rug takes up a lot of the floor space, basically right up to the edges of all the furniture. To me, it just doesn't look right without much in the way of a 'border' (empty space) around it. It dominates the floor space and probably contributes to the feeling of 'darkness'

2) Coffee tables are practical. We have a chunky coffee table in our lounge (taller than yours) and while it makes the room look smaller it gives us somewhere to put remotes, drinks, tablets, tins, paperwork etc etc. Rugs don't really serve much practical purpose other than protecting a carpet.

Overall your home has a good contemporary feel. The poster who said it looks cluttered would have a heart attack if he saw our house :)
edit: When I see things rooms this with no/minimal storage units (bookcases, display cabinets, chests of drawers, sideboards, cd/dvd racks etc), I wonder where the hell people keep all their stuff! [notwithstanding the fact that we have too much stuff, but that's another story]

My home is tile throughout the entire downstairs, so a rug is a must. Besides it adds a lot more to the audio warmth. :D

She also hates the hifi rack and speakers, but hey goes in one ear and out the other. She knew what she was marrying.

Not really fussed about the coffee table. Esp if it was cheap and nasty looking ;)

However I just don't get why anyone would decorate their house with *grey*.

It's such an awful, awful, awful colour. For anything. Get rid of all the grey I say!

Can't you build your own man cave complete with chiller, bar and pool table ?

Seriously dude I'm on your side but the crap on the middle shelf and all your hifi gear needs to go, give her a chance to do up the room and laugh in her face if she fails ?!

Tile floor is fine, actually preferred in a hot country. When you are boiling hot, just lay on the floor and it's all coooooooool.

Plus it is dead easy to clean.
