Is Saudi Football a threat to the European leagues?

I won't watch it as I have no affiliation to the clubs/region, I barely watch any foreign football as it is.

You're more likely to find me watching England/Arsenal women's team than this, even though the standard will be lower.

Absolutely no chance of me tuning in. Outside the Premier League, the champions league brings together the best from the best... if they end up in there i'll see them but otherwise it's very much of no interest beyond the story and impact of what's going on.

Interestingly - Have many of these players commented on why they're moving? I've seen a few but all of them just are thanks to the team they're leaving... I haven't seen a single thin word on 'the project' or anything... It's quite funny and at least they're all seem self-aware enough not try that on...

No point in them saying anything, unless they say it’s for the money, we all know they’re lying anyway.

I was quite enjoying listening to Darragh Macanthony’s take on Henderson and the virtue signalling left, right and centre. It was quite entertaining.

Can’t find the clip but it touches on it in this clip.

He was making a point that no one really knows where the flow of money comes from, and in many cases the flow of money comes from morally bankrupt sources. In terms of the Middle East and their human right issues our government has no problem doing business with them, neither do corporations all across the globe.

Definitely not a threat IMO. Just feels like another Russia & China. I doubt Saudi will keep up consistent investment.

Nah, they will sink a few billion, get nowhere and give up. Thy simply won't attract and retain enough good players to make it anything like good enough.

It's just effectively a marketing thing for Saudi Vision 2030 - it'll fizzle out.

Nobody is interested in it (from Europe).

Handy for offloading dead wood though.

It’s just another league for players well past their best to go, ala MLS.

They might attract very average players like Bradley Wright Philips but no top player anywhere near their prime is going there.

Zero threat.

You can have as much money in the world but if no one is interested in your product no one will want it. Unless you force it on people through government policy ;).

Also what makes the Premier League so good is that it is English and basically everyone understands it so makes it really marketable.

I actually have just been watching the friendly between Al-Jazira and Al-Ettifaq, mostly to see Henderson. Got to say, he looked lost in the game, he was barking out instructions in the same manner as when he was at Liverpool but it was clear that most of the players had no idea what he was saying, a few times the camera zoomed in on his face and he had a look of "what exactly am I doing here?" on it, a rather bemused look. Very early of course but I dont think it will be long before he is looking at the players and crowd and stadium infrastructure around him and then watching a Liverpool Premier League match on the tv and thinking, I could have been in there still, fighting for major trophies. The money will dampen it a lot but I do think there will be pangs of regret in him quite quickly at just where/what he is now playing in
