Is Waitrose decent/ expensive?

On topic - Seems incredibly expensive and pretty pretentious. Also a lot of it seems to be ready meals (much like M&S). And whilst they look good on the packet I'd much prefer buying the ingredients from ASDA/Tesco and making the food myself. The superiority complex of Waitrose shoppers is most odd.
You should try shopping at a Waitrose supermarket, then comment ('mostly ready meals').

As far as it being 'incredibly expensive' - how so? Their Everyday line might be more expensive than Sainsburys Basics/whatever the Tesco **** equivalent is, but essentially everything else is reasonably in line.

In fact, don't they price match on branded items?

Went in there today and picked up a few bits of meat and booze.

2x Angus Aberdeen Peppered Burgers
2x Ultimate Pork Sausage (90% Pork things, recommended by the butcher girl)
4x Honey and Apple Chipolatas.
1x Stella Cidre (was on offer at £1.25 thought I would try it)

and...

554g of Dry Aged Rib Eye.

I am going to die a happy man if I go tonight :D

As supermarkets go, about the best we have for quality and variety of organics etc. I don't know for sure but I have heard consistent comments indicating that the employees get treated reasonably well.

Well just done my first order with ocado.

Used a 25% of £50+ shop, new customers only.

Loving there massive range of BBQ and chilli sauces, may of got a few to many. So 108 shop was only £88, finally got a new freezer so planning on doing some big easy stuff like a batch of chilli and some chicken kebabs to start filling it up.
Prices looked. Fairly good and they have a province promise that for branded items and for items on offer they are cheaper than tesco.

Also delivery is so much cheaper than tesco, as cheap as 99p

Always shop at Waitrose, we only have a choice of Waitrose / Sainsbury's where we live, if you take the principle that the Essentials range is pretty good quality then shopping there is no more expensive than elsewhere, the only problem is the the quality stuff is there next to the Essentials and they look so nice.

I run a comparison with online shopping Sainsbury's / Tesco / Waitrose and there was only a few pounds difference between them on a £80 shop, I know where I'd rather shop.

Wow just wow.
So much smarter system than tesco.

Colour coded bags.
Anything with less than a week left, is listed in order and by days on teh receipt.
Really nice driver as well, new it was my first order and quickly explained the recipt.
Keep the bags and next time your order they'll take the old bags with them to recycle.

We smart, but easy things to do.
Very nice and proffesion service.

Sometimes the simplist things just make you stand back and go that's a great service.

Waitrose food >.

If you want branded stuff it's probably not the cheapest no, but not by much on average I woulda thought.

Anyway, we get JLP discount, which is awesome :D

its ~200 yards strole to my local Waitrose and so i do all my shopping there, i normally go half an hour before closing and get the reduced stuff, hot whole chickens for £1, donuts for 5p etc.. :)

For a cheese addict like me, Waitrose is worth visiting for the cheese selection alone, they do lots of raw milk cheeses both continental and British that you'd struggle to find in specialist cheese shops let alone other supermarkets.

I don't think Waitrose is particularly more expensive for basic fresh foods such as meats, fish, eggs, fresh fruit and veg and quite often the quality seems to be better than the other supermarkets.

we recently moved where we had a huge sainsburys so we put waitrose and tesco home delivery to the test, conclusion was waitrose great food, no more expensive than tescos but expect large amounts of substitutes (as the waitrose shop is nowhere near as big as the tesco shop) but if you buy good food, the price is comparable

When you say "good", you mean "more expensive and better packaged".

good
[good] adjective, bet·ter, best, noun, interjection, adverb
adjective
1.
morally excellent; virtuous; righteous; pious: a good man.
2.
satisfactory in quality, quantity, or degree: a good teacher; good health.
3.
of high quality; excellent.

Think that's what he means.

Do people feel more superior when they pay more for the same thing in Waitrose just because it is better packaged and costs more?

Think someone need to do a like for like shop before assuming it is more expensive or if it is, significantly so.

I don't have a waitrose near me but I'd go if there is, providing of course it's not double the price for the same thing.

For example I find the soup by M&S much nicer than Sainsbury's or ASDA or Covent Garden.

Plus, the atmosphere in Waitrose is also nicer too, when I go to the Tesco in my town centre I just want to leave ASAP.

Come again

Dear Customer,

I am pleased to tell you that our prices on branded grocery products are now identical to Tesco’s, excluding promotions.

As you would expect from Waitrose, there are no gimmicks, no coupons to redeem against a later shop, and no need to check your receipt online. We simply match the prices on the shelf, so you benefit immediately.

We will also continue to give you more than 1000 products on offer and, when you shop online, you get free delivery on all online grocery orders of £50 or more.

And all this comes with the same high quality food and service you expect from our Partners whose ownership of our business means we will always put you first.

Thank you once again for continuing to shop at Waitrose.

Yours sincerely,

No Waitrose near me so never been.

Hate going to supermarkets too. Always full of people getting in my way. Prefer to go in the early hours or online shop.
