ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

Primarily the females allowed out in Raqqah on their own are the religious police,, enforcing strict islamic law and if these are disobeyed stricter punishment is normally carried out.

Im not even mentioning ISIS here I'm talking about terrorist Islamists i.e predominantly in Idlib. which are very much the same as ISIS but just don't get as much newspaper time as they are smaller scale.

Much like

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-36835678

And that is coming from the BBC who are absolute drivel.

Every single woman walking the streets of raqqah is not religious police  otherwise that would be a lot of religious police!

Going back to what we were discussing though: it isn't either/or Assad ruled/terrorist ruled territory. There are plenty of places doing just fine without either tyrannical rule. So why do you seem Pro Assad, when they can have neither and clearly be better off?

They will more than likely be with their partners.

And please do tell me where is doing fine without government rule?

There are none. All the places not populated by government troops are under hard-line sharia law aka all the areas are under Al-Nusra influence aka the garbage re brand that is Jabhat Fateh Al Sham. A hard-line wahhabi group.

Sorry but you don't know what you are taking about. There are actually thousands of outlying villages that are not affected. ISIL/terrorist/Assad forces can't occupy them all!

Come on, I thought being an ex pongo you'd understand that.

I'm amazed people here support an evil dictator who openly and indiscriminately targets his own people. It's odd that people see the world so black and white too. As if the only options are Assad or Jihadists....

Who else is there to support?

We can support removing the current heathens and promote the democratic election of someone who isn't going to murder their own?

It's a step in the right direction rather than saying "ah hell with it, sod all those people outside Damascus, Syria have the lesser of two evils anyway, let them crack on".

To me, that is what SHOULD happen.

Five people have been stabbed in our own country at Notting Hill carnival. I see no thread about it, I see no mention of it here. Yet we are critical that there is no mention of 3 completely separate stabbings of people in another country?

My conclusion: people get stabbed.

Unfortunately it is likely Senator Richard H. Black has an agenda here whether there is any substance to it or not - this is massive political capital for him and certainly not done out of any good intentions.

EDIT: Not liking the direction this potentially could take though - looks like every potential for the US to tear itself apart if there is that much dissent within the ranks and/or massive fallout globally.

Pretty melodramatic. Of course nothing will actually come of it.

From the information to hand its almost conclusive the US with the aid of the British bombed an Assad area to allow ISIS to retake and gain a foothold.

Very worrying

That tin foil hat must be getting pretty heavy! Don't let that get in the way of pure fantasy though.

Likely course of events: the Russians were notified of the coalition intent to strike these locations. Would the Russians warn against that and prevent it from happening though? Of course not :) they'd sit back and laugh at the mess.

There is a lot of deconfliction of assets between Russia and Western allies in Syria. There is also warning when large strike packages are planned as well as other notifications for other strikes suck as ballistic missile missions. It was slow to start when the Russians first pitched up but it was realised that it would be sensible to cooperate to a certain degree in order to reduce risk to one another.

Big sky theory only applies so far.

The Americans bombed the UN and convoy now? Well whatever next!?

Red team or blue team. Who will win?! It doesn't matter, you've picked your team and you'll support them through to the end!

Cute.

Yup. The Americans blame the Russians (which isn't totally unfair given the Russians tendency to bomb anything and everything).

The Russians on the other hand blame the rebels - I'm shocked they even have any air strike asset.

Their other explanation seems to be that a blaze suddenly occurred on the convoy. Hmmmm, I think option 1 looks most likely.

Queue resident shills to bleat something contrary to this common sense though.
