ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

More like the PRF were hoping to land grab due to location of oil fields, initially held by Isis there. No mention of that though mate? Why not?
Because liberating your own land isn't a land grab.

Hmm, odd how they described those 'Beatles' as using horrific torture methods....and then said water boarding

I guess it's only torture when the bad guys do it.
The whole thing is a total mess really, they describe rebel extremists as "moderates" because they are less extreme than ISIS, but ignore the fact there's nothing moderate about beheading Christians/Jews for being infidels and hacking captured soldiers up while they're still alive. Now it's gotten to the point where they have had to break ties with the original rebels they supported as their extremism and links to groups like Al-Qaeda have become undefendable. It's a total mess over there.

Ideal solution would be for the Syrian and Kurdish forces to defeat the rebel/ISIS extremists and then the Kurds to be rewarded by being given autonomy in the north, sadly the USA have boxed themselves into a right corner by trying to paint the "moderate" extremists as better than the Syrian loyalist forces (lol) and they can't become reasonable now without looking weak, and we know how idiots like Putin and Trump feel about looking weak /sigh.

Is Scotland, Scotland's land, or is it the UKs? Are Scotland allowed to state their own land is theirs and be an independent state? Clearly not a like for like comparison, just interested to know if Scottish people should be allowed to determine their own future about what they claim to be their land, in your opinion?

Yes, gassing and bombing cities full of civilians = much better (lol??).

Agenda.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. has no evidence to confirm reports from aid groups and others that the Syrian government has used the deadly chemical sarin on its citizens, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said Friday.

“We have other reports from the battlefield from people who claim it’s been used,” Mattis told reporters at the Pentagon. “We do not have evidence of it.”

He said he was not rebutting the reports.

“We’re looking for evidence of it, since clearly we are dealing with the Assad regime that has used denial and deceit to hide their outlaw actions,” Mattis said.

An agenda indeed.

BBC have reported the French military stated an Israeli jet has been shot down while attacking Iranian forces in Syria, the police has been retrieved safe.

WTF?
I was of the belief that Iranian forces were fighting against Isis. Are the Israeli forces having their own party or are they part of a joint allied effort?
Seems an odd combo of names and events, and will no doubt fuel instability further in the region.

Israel always having their own party - they've been trying to push conflict away from the border region since the war broke out - even if that means engaging targets into Syria.

There was talk at one point of Iranian/Syrian efforts to push into the Golan Heights once things were wrapped up in Syria, which didn't exactly make Israel happy, but I'm guessing they are a bit too busy for that.

There is no one innocents when it comes to Syria and some parties being worse or just as bad doesn't excuse any one.

If you follow some of the earliest accounts in some of the cities the initial uprising were basically civilians and students, lightly armed and often disorganised - a few weeks later they were replaced by or organised by heavily armed forces with extremist Islam links.

Didn't the scottish people decide their own future in 2014 with a referendum and voted to remain part of the united kingdom?

and if you want to talk about civilians and war crimes why don't we talk about americas use of white phosphorous in populated areas?
Human Rights Watch expressed concern over the use of the incendiary weapon by the US-led coalition, saying it “raises serious questions about the protection of civilians” and should never be used in populated areas.

“No matter how white phosphorus is used, it poses a high risk of horrific and long-lasting harm in crowded cities like Raqqa and Mosul and any other areas with concentrations of civilians,” said Steve Goose, arms director at HRW.

never seen someone so biased that believes all the crap that comes from the people whos only agenda is to remove assad and gain control of oil fields.

is america fighting isis in africa? you can bet your bottom dollar it would be if africa suddenly discovered oil deposits on that continent.

Um...nigeria? Angola? Countries with massive oil resources.

DR Congo has vast natural resources including oil IIRC (which has caused no end of issues to be fair) I seem to remember it being part of Africa.

You missed my point, so leave that conversation there.

Another simple yes/no question (you struggled to answer my last): do you believe the west target civilians?
I believe the west targets so called isis or syrian forces regardless of whether civilian casualties will ensue.

Wasn't their a report recently going around reported that under the trump administration there has been more civilian deaths than during the whole obama period

Not really surprising though as during Trump's time in power ISIS have been largely pushed back into besieged urban areas reducing the chances to engage them in the open (one of the reasons for the controversial decisions to let them leave in some cases).
