ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of hiding behind the civilians and using them as human shields? (though technically deploying that tactic against Russia/Syria was never going to work as well as it has against the USA/etc lol).

Lol. Yeah it's so funny that they're indiscriminately killing innocent civilians. Lol. Lol.

Looks like Russia is escorting pro-regime forces into the Afrin region which makes things a bit sticky for Turkey as they can't easily deter or attack them before they get there as they supposedly tried to do before. Wonder how things will turn out - seems the agreement was the Kurds will give over around 7 districts uncontested to regime control in return for being allowed to permanently retain one of the bigger districts indefinitely.

Nearly 400,000 civilians trapped as Russia and Syria bomb the hell out of Ghouta. Alleged that chlorine gas being used too. Surprised this hasn't been mentioned here already. It would be interesting to know what ROE and collateral damage threshold criteria these nation's adhere to. I'd expect more outcry over this really, particularly since Amnesty International state the bombings amounted to War Crimes.

If it was then isn't it more likely to have been a terrorist storage house hit by the airstrikes rather than the Russians and Syrians using something so crude and so easily identifiable that once this **** storm is over can really get them ****** over in the international courts?

boris johnson is on about uk military action against syria again.

he should visit damascus where religious expression of all faiths is allowed and education isn't a crime..
then visit ghouta and see if he can manage to leave without his head being chopped off.
then parliament can decide who we should support

from a 2007 news article
The Syrian capital is the original crossroads of commerce, culture and tolerance for every religion. It's a land where modern sites and sounds meld with ancient roots, and important religious sites dot the landscape.

In Damascus, religions that are so often in conflict -- Christianity, Islam and Judaism -- live in harmony. Some women walk into Armani bareheaded, while others wear the scarf known as the hijab. Muslims pray side by side with Christians, Greek Orthodox, Armenian Catholics and Jews.
wonder what happens to the 20% of Christians and the churches if assad is removed from power

Considering the standard Russian battle plan of the 20th century was "grind our soldiers into the enemy until they drown in OUR blood" I very much doubt they even know what collateral damage is :(

It's the latest "ceasefire" arrangements that get me. Civilians have 5hrs to pack up their things and get out before bombing commences. The UNSC asked for 30days.

The UNSC didnt ask for ****, the UN did.

The UNSC is the real branch of the UN and it's just a fecal throwing match between Ex-Commies and Ex-notcommies, it is so indescribably pointless it borders on humour. With that out of the way, until the rebels **** off categorically or everyone actually agrees to a settlement, this is all they're going to get.
