ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

Debatable. ISIS don't really post a threat to us, and most of our military action in the area has really been to contain them until a better solution presents itself. Danger to Syrian citizens is a whole other question.

The whole reason ISIL don't pose a significant threat to us yet is because the US and coalition mission in Iraq and Syria is to disrupt and degrade them in Iraq and Syria. Left unchecked then I think it's fair to say that they would become a very sizeable threat.

so

industry 20%
aviation 8%
ships 10%

we're already up to 38% of consumption that cant be fixed with renewable electricity then.
Some of that industrial use also includes energy consumption, use of feedstock is only about 10% of the total.

As it is, maritime/aviation only accounts for 20% of oil use and both are under increasingly pressure to change to cleaner fuel, particularly maritime due to the NOx and Sulphur emissions of the heavy oils they currently use.

Or if they could walk from Syria to Europe and become EU citizens.

is there any alternative on the horizon though?

there were a few nuclear container ships built but that could never be a long term solution

I wish it was as simple as invading a country and then everything is sorted but it isn't. I am no historian or military expert and I can only go on what I have seen in my lifetime.

We invaded Iraq which is now being taken over by ISIS and we invaded Afghanistan which has started being taken over by the Taliban again.

We either need to leave troops there for decades after the war which we can't afford or simply leave them to it. The Middle East will sort itself out eventually.

Anyone else seen the reports of air skirmishes in the news? Turkey says they intercepted Russian jets in their airspace and escorted them back into Syria. Syria say Russia intercepted some Israeli F-15's in their airspace and escorted them out.

It's all going on in the sky lol.

I think that was me (I was trying to refer to the mentality on display here though).

Out of interest, where do people on this forum get the majority of your information from? Which newspapers do you read/news channels do you watch/other sources? Thanks.

A range of sources, the likes of incl. BBC, Sky, Telegraph, Independent, and Guardian News etc. anything like that but excluding the dross and inept newspapers such as The Sun, Mirror etc.

Ironic really since its yet another country the US is wanting to invade for its oil reserves when there is a renewable alternative growing out there in the form of hemp which could eliminate the West's desperation for fossil fuel all together if allowed.

But the oil billionaires want to stay billionaires and arms dealers will never stop making a literal killing selling rebels weapons while they enjoy the spoils of war as they watch the world slowly but surely implodes into a pitiful mess of human greed and corruption.

Contrary to what Jessie J may sing - it really is all about the money.

If they had housing on a different planet, I really do think I would take it.

/negative mode - off

I'm just waiting for someone to shoot someone else down by accident, it's only a matter of time

Well Israel are running F-15's, Turkey F-16's neither of which can match a Su-30MKI 1v1, so with the Russians having a numbers advantage I can't see them being the losers, which means western media will have a field day lol.
