Map of what group controls what.
The amount of heavy military hardware and manpower descending on Idlib from all directions is crazy - not quite sure how this is going to pan out or who is really aligned with whom, etc. heh - if it went down battle royale style it would be an absolute blood bath.
During WW2 parents shipped their kids off to remote locations to avoid all this.(in the millions might I add)
Why is a similar operation not underway in these regions? We can take these kids and get them the hell out of there. I know there is call for a corridor to be set up but when its going to be a free for all I can understand the reluctance.
and if the reports of a million children in the area is correct, then honestly Syria and Russia really are going to have to think hard before assaulting.
IDF has forced the Jerusalem Post to remove its explosive report on the Israeli military giving weapons to the Syrian rebels, the newspaper’s managing editor confirmed to RT.
“We were told by the army’s military censor to remove that part of the story,” David Brinn, the managing editor of the Jerusalem Post told RT as he replied to a request for comment. The report, ‘IDF confirms: Israel provided light-weapons to Syrian rebels,’ which claimed that the Israeli military acknowledged for the first time that it had provided money, weapons and ammunition to the Syrian militants, was removed just hours after being published without any explanation.
According to Brinn, the story was removed “for security reasons evidently.” The IDF told RT that it would not comment on the issue.
The Jerusalem Post article was removed shortly after being published, but a version of the article can still be read using Google cache
It claimed that regular supplies of light weapons and ammunition to the Syrian militants holding the territories near the Israeli border were part of the Operation Good Neighbor, which Israel portrayed as a humanitarian mission, which was focused on providing Syrians with “food, clothes and fuel.”
Israel has been arming at least seven different armed groups in Syria’s Golan Heights, the report said. It also added that the Israeli military believed that providing weapons to the militants was “the right decision” as they sought to keep Hezbollah and Iran away from Israel’s Golan Heights by such means.
The deleted report comes on the heels of another major disclosure. On Monday, the IDF announced that Israel has carried out more than 200 strikes on Syrian targets in the past year and a half.

Israel discreetly funded and armed at least 12 rebel groups in southern Syria in order to keep Iranian-backed militias and Islamic State fighters away from Israel's border, Foreign Policy magazine reported on Thursday.
Foreign Policy's Elizabeth Tsurkov interviewed more than two dozen members of the rebel groups, who reported that Israel's support took place in recent years and ended last month.
The weapons transfer, according to the report, included assault rifles, machine guns, mortar launchers and transport vehicles, all delivered through three border crossings – gates that connect the Golan Heights and Syria.
These crossings are the same ones through which Israel transferred humanitarian aid to Syria.
According to Tsurkov, Israel paid each rebel approximately 75 dollars per month, with additional money transfers for the groups to purchase weapons on Syria's black market.
When Bashar Assad's forces retook south Syria in July, rebel groups expected Israel to intervene, due to the support they had received, sources told Tsurkov. One fighter said: “This is a lesson we will not forget about Israel. It does not care about … the people. It does not care about humanity. All it cares about it its own interests.”
Heard nothing to confirm any significant movement yet other than sporadic exchanges of rockets, etc.
From the deployment of EINT, etc. I'm gonna assume the US is expecting it to be imminent though.
EDIT: Looks like the offensive proper might not start until early hours of the 10th with long range fire missions, etc. in the mean time against specific targets.
The Syrian Army has launched its long-awaited military operation to clear insurgent factions from the province of Idlib and surrounding territories.
Sources told Muraselon reporters that Syrian helicopters kicked-off the offensive this morning by targeting militant positions in Hama and Idlib provinces. The air attack was backed by shelling from Syrian Army rocket and howitzer units.
Russian airpower is also taking part in the attack alongside Syrian helicopters and artillery forces by bombing positions and movements of Nusra Front terrorists in the towns of Khan Sheikhun, Al-Latamanah, Ghernaz, Skik, Tel Skek and surrounding villages and hamlets.
Sources added to correspondents that the ground assault, when it does come, will take place on several axes at once. The immense air and artillery bombardment currently taking place is being done to soften up insurgent positions for infantry and armoured storming forces.
Syria’s permanent representative to the UN Security Council has confirmed Damascus’ willingness to secure safe passage for civilians in Idlib, if terrorist groups allow them to leave.
The military operation comes a day after the meeting of the Guarantor States in Tehran , where the final statement called on the militants to surrender their weapons and themselves – whilst Turkish President Erdogan demanded a truce in Idlib, Russian President Putin objected.
There are more than 30 insurgent factions in Idlib, most notably the Al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front, estimated to number more than 50,000, according to the Russian delegate to the Security Council.
The Syrian army has mobilized tens of thousands of soldiers, in addition to hundreds of tanks and other fire support weapons, to wage a major battle aimed at liberating the last militant-held areas of northwest Syria.
