ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

Ground assault is coming later it seems, but the proper air offensive seems to have started.

There is something quite odd about seeing in parallel people going about their daily business as if nothing is going on while a few 100 meters away buildings are exploding and emergency or military personnel are going about their business.

It's just life isn't it. What can you do? As they say, keep calm and carry on.

In other news, Youtube has closed more Syrian government and news channels.

Honestly, how obvious can you get? Clearly they want to control to all the news. Not the first time they done this. So much historical records have been lost.

See it all the time. It still freaks me out that they do that though. Sad really.

Excited? An odd feeling to have.

There is a bit of a spectator sport to it unfortunately - not something I want to take pleasure from though but I can't help but follow events. I've been following and donated to a friend's involvement in a refugee camp in Lebanon - mostly working with the kids - really quite challenging to reconcile with any recreational indulgence in following events.

is it really that different to all the people watching the second iraq war as it unfolded live or the twin towers burn.
the news is all about getting views from other peoples misery
they even had reporters with the troops who were attacking to bring it all in it's glory, probably shot in HD too

doubt there is much to get excited about here even for the more perverse members of the forum

So looks like the 10th wasn't the start of any major ground offensive as some were saying - still really quiet (relatively speaking - even with the airstrikes, etc. that are going on) would be fascinating to have more information on what is going on behind the scenes.

So no ground assault still.

Turkey and Russia are still battling it out in diplomatic talks, there is going to be an other face to face meeting on the 17th.

In the mean time, Russia plans to open safe corridors out of Idlib and promote local reconciliation between groups that wish to rejoin the government.

On the ISIS front, the SDF have took more ground from ISIS while SAA are still mopping up ISIS around deserts.

Instead of regurgitating twitter feeds (we can all read them), why not post your personal view on the matter?

Sooooo whatever happened to this imminent British chemical attack?

Timing wasn't convenient for Russia so we've delayed it 10 days.

Most of the twitter type feeds have had pretty much non-existent coverage of Syria the last 7-10 days (aside from the odd mention of regime helicopters dropping barrel bombs again/occasional Russian airstrike).

Is it? We turned the invasion of Iraq into live reality tv.

We? No the Media did and no doubt entirely for propaganda purposes.

If anything the mediastorm is probably what makes it harder to justify more wars, as we've ultimately seen what happens and the constant stream of "ohh 20 year old johnny blown to literal pieces while going for the toilet in Kandahar" and the respective interview's with parents, made it far more real.

Have you seen his sig?
Do you reckon he reenacts the battles with his dolls?

Are you suggesting IronWarrior has another source for information beyond that what is posted in social media?

I was just commenting in general - I've noticed some of the more prominent feeds have had very little real information the last little while.
