ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

They use images of dead Muslims to recruit, it makes no difference if they were or were not IS supporters.

Yes, but they're not going to recruit those who they sacrifice.
Look at the outcry in the muslim world against them. A dead body doesn't show western involvement when isis have killed many of their own, they're just as likely, if not more so to have killed that person. Only a fool would join them based on such propaganda. People are joining for other reasons.

We might know they are fools but 700 from this country left to fight for IS. Their use of incredibly slick social media is a huge pull factor.

But your argument was people are joining because the west is attacking them. You're now changing that argument. You're also neglecting the fact people were joining before the west was involved, when it was purely a muslim upon muslim civil war.
You know, the one that the 'muslim hating' west have intervened in to stop isis killing more erm...muslims.

the sad thing is we have the perfect weapon to defeat isis

kurds are great fighters and they love us, back them up with our air power and special forces and we would have isis beat in 365 days, problem is the turks wont allow it.

its all stone paper scissors ****

That exact thing happened in sinjar. I saw on the news the other day kurds clearly wearing helmets, flak jackets and holsters from america.

And you can bet your life sas/sbs will be involved, we just dont hear about it.

They are though. Have you watched some of the media they produce?

I'm not changing the argument at all.

facebook news feed is full of more dross...

I seem to be missing out on the EDL numpties people sometimes complain about - instead I've got people complaining that using the french flag on your profile is 'problematic' 'eurocentric' and even 'white supremacist'

two people have changed their profile picks to African flags... in some sort of rebellion against the french flag profile pics

I've also got a few people (muslim colleagues) convinced that George Bush created ISIS... or the Jews did... 'why isn't ISIS attacking Israel, just asking?' etc...

too many face palms....

Yes you are.
Initial argument was people are joining them because the west accidentally kills some innocents.

New argument is that they're joining because they produce shiny videos after I've pointed out the fallacy of your first argument by showing how people were joining before the west was even involved.

People are joining because they either see it is a religious calling, because they are disenfranchised with the/their current way of life and view a caliphate as offering something better or...as has already been shown, for money.

Plenty of people ask why ISIS and their like are always shown to hate Jews and Israel but have done absolutely nothing to help the Palestinians. In fact ISIS is doing an excellent job of reducing the general Muslim population of the world.

And I somewhat agree on the flag point on the basis that we should feel the sorrow and grief from the deaths of all innocents not just those in the West.

No, you've misunderstood what he has said and have also put a wrong explanation forward.

Do you see flashy ISIS propaganda on Quranic verses or on the evils of the West?

How have i misunderstood? He was clearly blaming accidental killings of civilians for people joining. Do I need to quote it?

As I pointed out people were joining when isis were only fighting other Muslims.

This has resulted in him now saying it's propaganda that has made people join. Thus argument has changed.
I'm saying the anti west propaganda is generally meaningless. This is not why people are joining.

They do though.

That is part of the reason some people join though.

Exactly, if you are disenfranchised, you have been viewing the propaganda and seeing your fellow Muslims being killed, then comes along someone who says, "look we know how you feel, many of my friends do to, come and talk to us, we will fight against these people killing our brothers" I can understand why that may tip them over the edge.

I agree that ISIS purposely target civilians while Western Forces avoid them but I wouldn't agree that ISIS started the war but we're beyond the point of who started it anyway. It's about how we finish it. And bombing ISIS into oblivion wont help long term because another group, Muslim or otherwise, will simply become the new baddies of the day.

What are you on about? What war? Isis want a Islamic caliphate. ..to have Islam rule the world. Anyone one who stands against they're twisted version of Islam is the enemy be it Jews, Christian nations who have been involved in Iraq and Syria or other Muslims.

They do though.

That is part of the reason some people join though.

No. I'm saying disenfranchised with their lifestyle. Their holy book tells them if they follow it they'll be rewarded. That's not how life works in the west I'm afraid. That's why so many of them leave, they're hoping in the caliphate they'll be rewarded for their service.
They want to see themselves as something bigger than they are. Here they work for minimum wage stacking shelves. Over there they are a great warrior, freedom fighter or just someone who carries a gun and so wields power.
Yes there are exceptions, as there always will be but the main draws are power, religion (which leads to reward, thus power) or fear. Better to be with them then against them being the logic there.
Look how many have tried to flee back to their home countries once the west has gotten involved and removed their power. They didn't fight because they hated the west, hell, they joined before the west. They just wanted to be something more than they are, they don't need crappy YouTube videos to tell them that.

This is all going to get much much worse in the years to come.

We haven't even seen the hatred the ISIS youth (children of 4-5) are going to have for us when they grow up in the next 10-15 years.

These will be Jihadis born and breed. Totally indoctrinated from the fist moment they were born.

it is just typical arab press Jewish conspiracy nonsense

Assad's forces control the Syrian/Israel border and it would be suicide for ISIS anyway as if they presented any credible threat in terms of invading israel then the IDF isn't going to worry about civilian casualties, they'd simply turn Raqqa into a parking lot overnight

look at the damage done to Gaza when they fire a few rockets at Israel that barely hit anything - if there was any credible threat of invasion you'd seem a much stronger reaction and ISIS + a whole bunch of civilians in any ISIS locations would be screwed

And I somewhat agree on the flag point on the basis that we should feel the sorrow and grief from the deaths of all innocents not just those in the West.

the Kenyan attacks happened in April yet a couple of people changed their profile pics today to a Kenyan flag... sure they were also tragic attacks but the people being vocal about them now didn't have anything to say about them back then - it is just a lame attempt to be 'alternative'
