30 years ago both Israel and Palestine acknowledged each others right to exist

Israelis have a habit of saying one thing in front of the world but behind closed doors… from the very first day of Israel’s inception, never been interested in peace.

The Jewish leaders, Chaim Weizmann and David Ben-Gurion, persuaded the Zionist Congress to lend provisional approval to the Peel recommendations as a basis for further negotiations.[25][26][27][28] In a letter to his son in October 1937, Ben-Gurion explained that partition would be a first step to "possession of the land as a whole".[29][30][31] The same sentiment, that acceptance of partition was a temporary measure beyond which the Palestine would be "redeemed . . in its entirety,"[32] was recorded by Ben-Gurion on other occasions, such as at a meeting of the Jewish Agency executive in June 1938,[33] as well as by Chaim Weizmann.[31][34]

BREAKING: Israel has used white phosphorus in military operations in Gaza and Lebanon, putting civilians at risk of serious and long-term injuries.White phosphorus causes excruciating burns and can set homes afire. Its use in populated areas is unlawful.https://trib.al/FscpF3H

Israel will claim it was only used in unpopulated areas. That's the same excuse she used for previous phosphorus attacks.

C4 news piece with scenes of all the innocent murdered children being pulled from the rubble as a result of the indiscriminate mass bombing. UK government silent.

"Our military and diplomatic teams across the region will also support international partners to re-establish security and ensure humanitarian aid reaches the thousands of innocent victims of this barbaric attack from Hamas terrorists," Mr Sunak said.

Edit - oh I see what you mean, nothing re: OTT Isreal bombings.

I get the sense that we are simply trying to cosy up to the US as their ally, rather than do anything ‘noble’.

Not true, it can be used for smoke. The 155mm shells actually say WP Smoke on them.
only partially true. Its use in population centres where there is high risks to civllians is prohbitied under protocol III, however considering Israel didn't sign up to that I guess they don't care. Ironically enough Lebanon and Palestine did sign up to it. See @gazref link for reference.

airbursts of WP over what they claim is an unpopulated area in one of the most densly populated areas of land in the world........................ That's like the time I told my teacher that my neighbours dog ate my homework.

I see. And what about the thousands of rockets launched at Israel? Were they meant to turn the other cheek?
no, but as the overwhelmingly superior military force they shouldn't use ordnance that is capable of dealing collective punishment style retribution when they have alterantives that do the same job without maming large swathes of the non combatant civllians, unelss of course you believe Palestine = Hamas and they should all be cleansed...............

Nope.

(b) Incendiary weapons do not include:
(i) Munitions which may have incidental incendiary effects, such as illuminants,
tracers, smoke or signalling systems;

Israel will just claim it was smoke used for marking, which seems to be the case. They did the same back in 2008.

What are people's thoughts, on the UK getting involved? - we're sending ships and planes to help Israel..

I'm not sure it sits well with me.

I feel more like we should leave that **** hole part of the world alone and stay the hell away..

The idea that any of the kit we're sending is going to (in the words of Sunak) "prevent further escalation" is laughable, we're sending a couple of ships (not actually Royal Navy but merchant Navy Royal Fleet auxiliary vessels) and a tiny number of marines which I expect are really going in the event we need to evacuate British citizens.
There's a US aircraft carrier group there, anything we send in comparison is just laughable.

Not really keen on it tbh, feels like its always the US and UK that are having to be the worlds police but I guess we cant be as insular in 2023 as I would like us to be when it comes to these sorts of things.

I get that, but I think that's part of the point I'm making - in reality we're not really going to generate any impact, but we are painting a target on our backs by getting involved..,.

The 2017 terror attacks stick in my memory..

I get the US getting involved, they want to to use Israel to project their power over that continent, and Israel is full of yanks anyway...

But the UK.... I just don't like the idea of us getting involved.

The cynic in me thinks Sunak see's it as a vote winner and also provides him with a bit more politiking to say that based on Labours antisemitism connections they would never have done this and then paves the way for them to roll out an election campaign that revolves around saying vote for Labour = vote for Islamic Terror.

Edit//

The UK has barely got a military it can hold together for its own needs let alone cosplaying as world police.

At the moment it looks like they're sending additional fire engines to support the fire brigade in putting out a tea candle.

I understand the reason for sending them however, but they need to be clear that this continuous bombing is wrong and Children dying - whether at the hands of Hamas or due to indiscriminate bombing - is never justified.
