If the reports are true of 100s of civilians dead in southern towns, not including those killed or injured by rockets, along with a few dozen IDF soldiers killed or captured then the response is going to be like nothing we've seen in decades.

I honestly don't think it's a solvable conflict until it reaches all out war and one side is near enough eradicated.

That is probably about to happen if the reports from the southern towns are true.

Lets be hypocrites then. Aren't we always when it's in our interests.
Israel is a very important ally so we should let it get on with it. They won't listen to anyone anyway.

It would spark a massive war and justifiably so. Israel are already occupying land that doesn't belong to them and seen as a bully. The Arab nations would take it as an act of war against the Arab world.

I'm not convinced. It's not like Egypt hasn't had its foot on Paletine's throat for years. The Arab world has little appetite or ability to wage war on Israel. But Israel annexing the parts of Palestine it hasn't already would inevitably lead to a on-going state of guerrilla warfare coming from within what is now their borders. Their slow, rolling occupation is likely to continue instead.

Where did Hamas get the munitions for this surprise attack?

It seems like this conflict could spread - especially if Iran is involved.

Home grown, or supplied from Iran mostly, as I understand it.

Iran has few allies in the Arab world, and half the nearby nations hate Iran a lot more than they hate Israel. Besides Iran is a thousand km from Israel, there's only so much they could do in an attack.

This situation is forever boringly predictable. Either the Israeli regime kicks out all arabs in Israel and cements itself as the regional pseudo-pariah or pull down the walls, rebuild and provide universal citizenship and representation status for all and live in peace.

Good luck with that!

I don't agree with Hamas or any terrorist organisations (one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter and all that) BUT...

I find it interesting that a certain group, who effectively consider themselves as the perpetually oppressed throughout history and appear to use certain historical events like WW2 as a way to shut down discussions that don't go their way, are the very same people looking to oppress another group and commit ethnic cleansing of an area that is not theirs.

The Israeli state was given to them as a place of safety but they don't seem happy with that and want to commit the same acts (ethnic cleansing) to another group. But woe betide anyone that challenges it because, you know, "the Holocaust"

Hypocrisy, thy name is...

Crazy videos on r/CombatFootage of para gliders coming, houses occupied and having shootouts with police. Boats trying to land, and iron dome doing its best to keep up.

Huge failure by Mossad. This is a massive, well-planned operation by Hamas, and it seems to have taken the Israelis completely by surprise. There are reports that the IDF have lost control of at least one army base.

Israel is expected to declare war on Hamas at 1pm their time (11am here). This is the biggest threat to Israel for more than 50 years. It's going to be horrendous.

Looks like they've already declared war?

This whole area has the possibility to ignite a huge war. Let’s just hope whatever happens it’s as small scale as possible and doesn’t start dragging in external powers.

I've seen the photos, hamas overran a Israeli base, photos of dead Israeli soldiers shot in their barracks on Twitter
