Sorry, meant F16. Mistype there from me.

It's no secret that Israel commits war crimes and state sponsored terrorism, you won't get any argument from me about that.

It is just land to me and you and ought to be the Jews too. How do I explain the empire bit..... Let's say you bought a car on finance. You couldn't afford to keep up with the payments and the car was taken away from you. The car then changed ownership several times. Years later, do you reckon that's still your car?

Your analogy does not work. A car is not a country. When people indigenous to the land are occupied, and we have the opportunity to restore that land to them (as happened in 1947, and in every case where African and subcontinental British colonies gained independence) it is done on the basis that their land was occupied unjustly. It's not because they failed to maintain the payments.

I am wondering how on earth did those 5000 rockets end up in Gaza from Iran?
By land through Iraq and Syria and then Lebanon and then by sea?
Or, by sea from Iran and then through the Suez?
Or, has Iran drilled through the earth's core and has a direct tunnel to Gaza?

Israel says 3,000 rockets, not 5,000. In the past, they were smuggled through the Egyptian and Israeli borders. Then Iran helped Hamas to construct their own rocket factories, so they can be produced within Gaza.

Regardless of the long dark and tragic history between these two. I think it's safe to say that Hamas' actions here have very much sealed the fate of many thousands of innocent palistinian lives.
I don't really have a dog in this fight. I very much do not care for the region, it's a bloody mess, has been for a lot longer than I have existed and will continue to long after I am gone.
However that said I have strong opinions on Islamic extremists/terrorists. Whilst I sympathise with innocents caught up in this. If you are going to elect an organisation like Hamas to represent you. Then it's eventually going to bite you in the ****.

Some members of my church community are living in Israel. This is their account of the conflict so far. I have redacted information that could be used to identify individuals.

We all are healthy, but we are not safe. We are under heavy bombing we have never experienced before. The Iron Dome does its job, but when 2000-3000 rockets are fired simultaneously, it is impossible to catch all of them. We already have several buildings heavily damaged in our hometown.

Yesterday, we jumped out of our beds at 6:30 AM with the first warning siren – air raid alarm – and from 6:00 to 10:00 AM the alarm was almost non-stop. Even in Rishon LeZion! However, even Tel Aviv and Jerusalem were bombed. In Jerusalem, the Arab part of the city also was bombed, and Jerusalem was bombed for a long time.

Yesterday, the battle on the ground took place within Israeli territory including three towns – Sderot, Netivot, and Ofakim, besides several villages.

Today, Sunday, it is still going within our borders!

We spent most of the time in a shelter. The situation in Ashdod, where ****, ****, ****, and ****** ******* live, is much worse. Ashdod is still under fire. Sunday morning, the situation is calmer in Rishon LeZion.

Yesterday, our building was somewhat damaged by a nearby explosion, mainly windows, but this is not our main concern. The ceiling and one of the walls of our flat became wet. We checked the flats upstairs, but there is no leak there. Most probably, the explosion damaged some general water pipe of the whole building because this wetness spread out further down to the next floor.

We are extremely worried about this because if water spreads somewhere within the walls, the whole building may become unstable. We informed the authorities and services, but no one arrived so far. Well, Shabbat. We are waiting for them today to take care of the problem.

All kindergartens, schools, universities, sports facilities, and theaters are closed from the South and up to the Tel Aviv region. The government announced the situation as “not a military operation,” “not escalation,” but as “war.” Another problem is a suspicious activity of Hizballah on our northern border, but no full-scale actions occurred so far.

**** [local archaeologist] says her windows are shaking from the bombing in Gaza. She lives at ****** ******** ***** of Gaza right on the Egyptian border. The IDF are destroying all the homes of Hamas officials.

260 bodies have been recovered from the music festival. ******, ****'s 32 year old son hid under his car for 2 hrs while under fire and then, drove home when they moved on, some of his friends have been killed.

Frequent though not constant bombing going on in Gaza at the moment, some pretty big stuff going off at times. Aside from 1-2 hot spots though seems pretty quiet currently.

Israeli rhetoric just got a bit spicier.

"The era of reasoning with these savages is over. Now is the time to destroy the terrorist infrastructure of Hamas, to completely wipe it out so that such horrors will never happen again," Israeli Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan told reporters.

Ooof some pretty heavy bombardment going on now. (Dunno what the target was but 3 pretty close artillery strikes on the Reuters cam).

EDIT: 2 of these right in front of the camera:

Israel Vietnam was a warning on how badly a guerrilla war is to fight and win not an instruction manual.

I'd say the scales were too small here for it to play out like Vietnam when it comes to Gaza (and/or other parts like the West Bank) and with the likes of Lebanon there are internal politics, etc. at play as well - I don't really see Hezbollah getting stuck in beyond some border skirmishes as doing so risks the grip on power they have in Lebanon.

This is a huge death toll for Israel, and it's barely started.

Yeah, pretty sure they are pro-Israel and pro-Ukraine. WarMonitor is Lebanese, so more likely to be pro-Hezbollah and Hamas.

I dont think we will know the true numbers for Gaza. They won't get registered or no one wil know yet. I can't see much of it being left standing by the time this ends. It's only a tiny area.

isnt israel supposed to the be promised land for the Israelites and belongs to the jews? im not fully clued up in this..

Yes. But it was not returned to the Jews in 1947 on that basis. It was returned to them because they are the longest surviving inhabitants, with the longest connection to the land in recorded history.
