It looks like the 'real' /affordable RDNA3 + next gen NV desktop launch won't launch until September. Thoughts?

Unless N33 clocks really high I don't see it being used in a product named 7700XT. It would need to offer 6800 level performance at worst and I just don't see it at all from the laptop N33 reviews dotted around.

Personally I think the following stack could work and it would sell well.

NameDieConfigRaster Perf Target approxCost
7800XTN3260CU + 4 MCD. 16GB 20gbps ramAIB 6950XT / 4070Ti$600 ($550 if they want to be aggressive)
7700XTN3248CU + 4 MCD. 16GB 18gbps ram 6800XT / 4070$500 ($450 if they want to be aggressive)
7600XTN3240CU + 3 MCD. 12GB 18gbps ram6800 / 3070Ti$400 ($350 if they want to be aggressive)
7500XTN3332CU. 8GB 18gbps ram6700 / 3060Ti$280 ($250 if they want to be aggressive)

Even with that pricing it is not exactly a huge improvement over the outgoing cards.

Even if it clocked to 3GHZ,it will be literally an RX6700XT in core TFLOPs. So at best AMD could sell it as an RX7600XT 16GB.

I just feel like they might gimp the 7800xt a bit more than that, especially if they price it at $550, due to where the 7900xt sits. I wonder if they might gear it more towards 6900xt or 3090 performance so it stays a good 20% slower than the 7900xt.

I don't think they will do that unless N32 simply does not have the performance.

7900xt can come down in price or they can launch 7950xt/XTX refreshes at the same time to improve performance and maintain current pricing.

At $550-$600 the 7800XT would be an excellent margin part for AMD so cannibalising 7900XT would not really hurt their bottom line either.

Hm, i just can't see them refreshing/righting off the 7900 models so quickly. They've only been out 4/5 months.

I think its far more likely they will slot the 7800xt in at 20% slower than the XT for ~$600. That still means it beats the 4070 at the same price, which is probably all they will worry about.

MLID said the current version of Navi 31 has some bugs. So we could see a new stepping released at some point.

The latest thing AMD has released is 4nm low power Phoenix GPUs (mobile):

I wonder if AMD is going to use TSMC's 4nm process for any desktop graphics cards?

The fact that they are already using 4nm for some RDNA3 products, suggests that they are unlikely to use 4nm for RDNA4 (3nm seems more likely).

No desktop Phoenix APUs have been released yet either, maybe they will come next?

Oh well, at least if the 7600 XT is 32 CUs, it won't be any worse than a 6600 XT:

We know the 7600 is an 8GB card, so it looks likely.

It terms of the performance, the FP32 processing power is about 2x that of the RX 6600 XT:

Basically, they can get a decent boost compared to Navi23, because the RDNA3 architecture is faster.

TPU put it 10% behind the 6600XT, which is really odd given its specifications are identical only its clocked higher and has faster memory IC's.
