Italian Grand Prix 2015, Monza - Race 12/19

For me it all boils down to intent!
If it can be proved that Merc deliberately under-inflated the tire then I'm all for a punishment as that's simply not cricket!
However if Merc followed protocol and the pressure simply dropped independently then I think any type of punishment would be rather unfair!!

**The cynic in me thinks that a Merc no-score race at this point in the season would be lucrative/beneficial !??! /tinfoilhat

Don't understand why everyone is talking about a disqualification. Symonds just saying this is the standard penality for a "clear technical infringement". How was Bottas driving around with odd tyres on not a "clear technical infringement"?

Pat Symonds saying that is both a technical and safety infringement and he'd expect high penalties and thus disqualification...

Rosberg will be happy I guess.

Because it's a sporting infringement.

Tyre pressures set by the Pirrelli representative in the Mercedes pit not the team themselves.

Wonder if the teams can ask for the calibration certificate for the tyre pressure sensor that was used. If that can't be produced then the checks are invalid.

They had 5 minutes before the start of the race to adjust the pressures, but nothing was said then. It then took and hour an 4 minutes before the stewards and team were notified.

That is absurd.

I find it funny him talking about how rules are rules after his involvement in the Piquet Jr incident

Seems a bit pedantic to punish here since he would have won by the same margin I'm sure.

However, if they play the letter of the law game and therefore punish for the infringement, then the punishment surely should also be to the letter of the law, even if that means it has no effect on the final race positions.

Tailoring a punishment to make sure it hurts more is just stupid :p

The same Pat Symonds that was known to cheat ;)

Anyway..roll on the next race...

Regardless of any penalties, for the FIA to check pressures on the grid then do nothing about it until after the race has finished is totally farcical. If they were to DQ Lewis, they're basically saying they knew his car was illegal before the race even started but they let him drive the whole race, win it and do the podium ceremony, only to DQ him later.
