Italian Grand Prix 2015, Monza - Race 12/19

no penalty

big teams getting there way in F1 again

exact same thing occurred in GP2 and teams were DQ'd

GP2 doesn't use tyre blankets so their measurements are with them at ambient, not some unspecified time after the blankets have been switched off and the tyres starting to cool down.

Common sense prevails. The anti-Hamilton brigade can troll off elsewhere and Pirelli and the FIA can sort out their own procedure before trying to place blame on an innocent party.

Oh, and so much for Smedley's 'the tyre pressure doesn't drop much' nonsense. Isn't he meant to be in the know?

That is incredibly ridiculous.

Yep, they made or continue to use a testing method. That doesn't check what they want and doesn't fall in line with the directive. Which specifically status running pressure, which they can access via telemetry anyway. It just seems like a pointless check that should be dumped. And everyone can be checked every race weekend by telemetry and the Pirelli representative.

It is a bit worrying that he doesn't! Anyone with even a slight interest in cars knows that the tyre and ambient temperature can have a pretty significant affect on the pressure.

Pirelli should be dumped too. Clearly their tyres aren't upto the job, or they wouldn't have brought in this rule in the first place. Mercedes aren't going to intentionally cheat with something so easily checked, they are absolutely miles ahead.

It is a shame Hamilton had to put some unnecessary wear on his engine as a result of this nonsense.

Focusing on non-Lewis stuff for a sec...

I'm still a bit confused how Rosberg managed to jump not only Bottas but also Massa at the stop - did the Williams have a really poor in/out lap? Seemed like Rosberg made up an enormous chunk of time to jump both of them.

Strategy-wise, could/should Williams have tried to use Bottas to back up Rosberg a little and try to give Massa enough of a buffer to prevent the undercut working? Not sure on that one myself - feels like deliberately nobbling Bottas for the sake of the team but wouldn't have harmed him any more and possibly aided Massa.

Mercedes car is simply faster in clear air. Pitting early let him pull the 2-3 seconds he needed to jump them both, as Massa and Bottas were close together.

I must say it is amazing how Rosberg somehow managed to munch through two engines in the space of a race weekend.

To be fair the new engine failure wasn't his fault and his race engine was doing one more race than was intended, six in total and including both Spa and Monza so I'm not surprised it gave up and died.

Ah i see. I hadn't realised the race engine was on its last legs anyway.

Apparently the new spec engine had water contamination and will be fine for next race weekend. So probably just needs a total rebuild and clean.
And not surprised the old engine failed. It had been ran since Canada which includes several tracks which are hard on engines.
