Italian Grand Prix 2015, Monza - Race 12/19

Arai has apparently made the statement that the they need a layout change and basically redoing the entire ers system. I would say told you so but I think you all know I said this ages ago.

As I've been saying the past few days though, Ferrari made this mistake but made steps to rectify it seemingly very early in the season last year and they also brought in the best ERS guy on the grid. If Ferrari made the changes right after testing last year so April/May they had 10 months to fix the engine. If Honda have finally just realised/admitted this basically since the Hungary update did nothing then that is 4 months less to make such changes for the start of the 2016 season which is a huge difference tbh. Ferrari had a pretty solid ICE last year and a reliable engine to build the changes in the mgu-h/turbo into and had help via the ERS expert and a couple of other engine guys they brought in. Honda have less time, a worse and no where near reliable base to work from and seem to be refusing to bring in any experts.

I can't see them with all that in mind making the same turnaround Ferrari did for next season. I do absolutely now expect a bigger package, a compressor out of the V, improved mgu-h, bigger turbo and compromised chassis. But I said this all season, when Honda make a big engine change it means a bit chassis change. It means size zero goes backwards and all the development this year goes to waste to some degree.

It beggars belief the arrogance Ron Dennis had to see exactly what Ferrari got wrong, have Ferrari admit it during last season, see them fire engine guys and bring in new guys clearly focused on ERS power and then make exactly the same mistake.

Rather than hire a great team manager and let them do their thing, he hired someone who didn't have a big enough name who could be pushed around, insisted on size zero and put a massive budget behind the plan he wanted rather than a realistic plan that can be achieved. Brawn in charge of the team would have seen his plans for engine told him to **** off with size zero, pushed the engine in the right direction and made the best package possible.

.

Everyone has been saying this since March, some even from the Feb tests, the Autosport forum is up to it's 6th Mclaren-Honda thread due to the sheer SMH approach from the coalition of the incompetent.

They won't be allowed to redo the layout of the thing though, will they? I don't know how far the tokens go, but surely there won't be enough to redo the layout of the thing. It isn't Lego.

Still, it's in the sport's interest to sort this. F1 should never have anything in common with the BTCC, but if we're keeping these engines then having one competitive car, or perhaps two if Ferrari can get their consistency sorted, is going to make Bernie sad along with the image mess he already has on his hands. We need some form of allowing extra development.

On that note, I'm glad a driver has stood up, pointed a Bernie and said "**** off with your stupid commercial deals with emirates and oligarchs". Well done Vettel.

Where has vettel said that, I can't find anything? I imagine it's some form of retaliation after Bernie said he was crap for F1 and no one knows who he is away from the track.

He said it in the press conference (the one off the podium) after the race. I paraphrased. He actually said:

Vettel said:
If we take this (Monza) away from the calendar for any ****** money reasons, you are basically ripping our hearts out.

Edit: I wonder if F1 loses Monza after next year if Ferrari will consider pulling out at the end of their FOM contract. I assume they're still unhappy with the engine rules, unhappy with the go-as-slow-as-you-can attitude and they'd have lost their two most treasured races. I bet the WEC rumours would certainly pick up.

Hi guys,

Went to my nephew's christening yesterday so didn't watch the race live, ended up watching it at 9pm lol.. My Dad had a look at his phone and told me that the race was controversial...

So I got home, expecting to see a really good and entertaining race, but I guess that headline must have meant the tyre pressure saga at Merc.

Anyway the race was better than Spa at least, but certainly won't be watching it again.

Well done to Lewis for doing what he does, felt a bit sorry for Nico, all went against him this weekend. Was like Noooo Kimi at the start, shame he messed up and him and Vettel couldn't chase Hamilton down with a good strat.

Great to see Button having a few battles and not giving up - looked like he was enjoying himself, and he's not exactly getting blown away by Alonso, out qualified on Saturday and holding his own in the races.

Singapore should be fun, hopefully.

Wonder what Jenson means from this interview about needing a word with McLaren...

I imagine that they're trying to screw down on money once again. McLaren's finances won't look too healthy next year.

Jenson may also be looking at the options for an extension. He hinted quite strongly on Thursday or Friday that he sees himself being capable of three more years in F1.

I think the chances of Jenson staying are pretty slim. Beating your team mate while being on something like 1/3rd of Alonso's salary and your team now want to not give you the promised salary increase for the next year? Pretty bitter pill to swallow that.

Alonso being paid 25mil+ to drive this crap bucket, he's getting 8mil, promised 12mil next year but Mclaren don't want to pay it because the car sucks and it's not worth paying drivers that much to be at the back. This as they lose sponsors left right and centre over the past 2 years with more to follow at the end of this season.

He doesn't need the money now, he can get a more competitive driver in either a different series or maybe a different car though with limited options for 2016 now. He could go Haas I guess, Ferrari engine will offer a better drive than a damn Mclaren for next year I'd be almost certain. Yet to be seen exactly what Haas's real intentions are, the next Manor/Caterham or coming in at Sauber/TR level with the intention of investing and improving? Renault/Lotus potentially. Or take a year out, try another series and look for a drive in 2017 with probably a few seats opening up.

Hinting at 3 more years at McLaren, or 3 more years in F1 in general (i.e. a thinly veiled "get me out of here!" plea to the rest of the grid)?

I hope so. Watching McHonda's demise is disappointing but watching Jenson and Fernando twiddle their thumbs at the back of the grid and not even race a manor is just straight up painful viewing.

About 5 seconds over 5 laps, whilst in amongst back markers.
And setting a 1m 26.672s, Vets best lap was 1’27.376
