Italian Grand Prix 2015, Monza - Race 12/19

Apparently the new spec engine had water contamination and will be fine for next race weekend. So probably just needs a total rebuild and clean.
And not surprised the old engine failed. It had been ran since Canada which includes several tracks which are hard on engines.

I guess Mercedes had no choice but to use that engine. They have said in the past that these engines have absolutely no life past their intended use.

They didn't really.
They didn't have any spare new spec engines t this race, they are so new.
So they would have had to take an old spec engine and then that means running it for 4 races or so. So they did what was best for the rest of the season.

I wonder at the next race whether Sky keep bigging up Vettel's chances. Sure, there is a really remote chance of winning the WDC, but Sky like to make out it is much more likely than it actually is :p

Indeed. It is pretty stupid. Even if Ferrari suddenly leapfrogged Mercedes and Vettel won the remaining 7 races and Hamilton came third in all of them, Vettel still wouldnt win!

So, 53 points ahead with 7 races remaining. Even if Rosberg were to win every remaining race, Lewis would only have to come second each time and he'd still win.

Controversy aside, what a boring race.

This sums it up, Sky stayed on air a further 2.5 hours to cover deflategate which was more than the race and pre-race coverage...

The fact that Lewis had the largest gap up front since 1998 and schumacher shows how utterly dominant merc are. It's depressing really, it wasn't even this bad when red bull were winning.

So I didn't miss anything then? When I heard yesterday, obviously that Lewis got pole once again, I thought what is the point watching the race. As he'll drive on into the sunset.

I've lost interest in the top 2 steps of the podium now as it's now filled most of the time by Mercs, and they don't even race like they did last season. I'm all for the racing back through the pack, something that was significantly lacking today even with Kimi coming through the pack. How many of his moves were wheel to wheel battles as apposed to just driving past with DRS? I can't believe they can still get the DRS zones so wrong after all this time.

It is a shame Rosberg has not been able to get close to Lewis this season. Even though Lewis was still better then Rosberg last season, it was a decent bit closer and made for a good title race.

F1 is only worth watching for the ongoing Mclaren-Honda comedy routine.

It's not comedy any more, its tragedy.

Honda are killing a legendary team and 2 WDCs. Even allowing for the utterly stupid FIA rules around testing making it hard for new engine suppliers, Honda have blasted through almost 20 engines and seemed to make zero steps forward. Mercedes have used what, 5, and found about a second.

I'm now at the point of praying Ron has a massive meltdown and throws the contact in the bin rather than having to suffer years of McLaren being lapped, twice.

Just think how competitive they would have been with that Merc power unit as well (as we are told the chassis is actually pretty good this year)!

If Williams can make a pretty competitive car with it, Mclaren might have been giving Merc a run for their money, if they had stuck with Merc as their engine supplier.

What are all the small red rectangles on some of the cars?

If you mean the yellow or red squares lots of teams run on the front or rear wing, they are to tell the 2 cars in the same team apart.

In the 90s Sauber ran yellow and red flourescent mirrors on their cars for the same purpose.

Good question. I would have said tape over screws or something, but they aren't anywhere near screws. There's loads of them and they look like they have some sort of logo on them? FIA Scrutineers stickers or something?

Edit: I'm referring to the little red squares all over the rear bodywork of most of the cars.

Neither are trapped, either is experienced enough to know what was coming. Money talks, Alonso signed one of the biggest deals on the grid. No one, absolutely no one with any sense see's rushing a complex piece of engineering as smart. They both signed new deals with Mclaren for money.

Ron's arrogance could easily have made him believe they might be competitive this year, even Ron probably realises they won't be competitive next year either now. Considering the lost sponsorship, the incoming loss of constructors money even though Honda appear to be covering half the wages(of Alonso or both, not entirely clear) it would save them a bunch of money to release both and have Mag/Van in the car at a fraction of the wages, would save them and Honda probably £30-35million next year.

Massa is apparently only in the 3-5mil income range, Button apparently on 8 going to 12m for next year, Alonso supposedly on 25-35mil(often quoted in € so maybe £25mil), these are amounts no other team can come remotely close to offering them.
Alonso is trying to fill his purse as much as he can so he can start his cycling team. That's all he cares about now.

One thing is for certain, someone in the steward's office needs to learn to use frigging paragraphs.

Reading that was painful!

It's my birthday today but what a crap race. Actually started helping the mrs with her school planning :(

LOL.
Dude, thats the only reason I keep tabs on F1. Honda and McLaren are comedy gold and the best thing - its going to get even more funnier as the season wears on. These guys are making no progress, but are constantly claiming that they will be competitive, soon. I actually don't think they will compete with the best power units in F1 for at least a few years (3-5 years, my guess) OR if there is a major change in engine regulations.

The other point of interest for me is Merc's total dominance and inability to lose a race.
Once the race winner isn't totally predictable I will definitely start watching, again.
