It's funny how (fuel shortages)

Cycling back from the hospital this afternoon I passed one garage and they were rammed, cars backed up into the road. Saw a bloke I know sat in the queue, stopped to have a chat and he's filled all three of his motors up to the brim today - not because he wants too but because his missus told him to. **** like this sort of makes me glad I can't drive anymore.

I must admit I felt a little smug going past all the queues on my eBike today :-)

Motorway service stations charge about 20p more a litre. Most junctions have a supermarket within 3 miles away

Yup but that adds unnecessary time to a journey when I could just fill the 600+ mile tank at at the supermarket I must pass to drive almost anywhere slightly early than I normally would do. It's pretty much the only time I ever fill up the tank when the light isn't already on. The one positive part of a having a diesel with a 60 litre tank is that you still have 70+ miles/7+ litres left when the light comes on.

Think petrol station workers should only let people with low fuel gauge readings to fill up. ‘I’ve got a 300 mile drive’
‘Fill up en routes’

I'm generally against anything that puts ordinary workers into conflict situations (same with mask wearing etc).

Filled both cars up today and queued no more than 10 minutes each time.

What was frustrating was the 20 minutes everyone had to wait the second time around as people inconsiderately blocked the road while they were waiting.

Had no choice to go. The light was on and I am stuck in cue thinking, probably run out of petrol while in the car. Thankfully I was able to get fuel, only unleaded remain, diesel fuel in a 1 mile radius was all out. When the government says don't panic, what it really means is, panic and the media didn't help. There is fuel, but because of this panic buying, it will probably cause a shortage. We had the Toilet Tissue fiasco, get ready for Fuel 2.0 carnage.

Pretty laughable, the media stoking up the clueless public into panic buying, it’s strange, petrol tanker driving is one of the highest paying HGV driving jobs, I’ve never seen job adverts for such positions even during the current shortage, it’s known as a “dead mans shoes” job ie vacancies just don’t come up unless someone dies….

'it's strange'...definitely!, as you say it's more likely there's waiting lists to get a fuel tanker driving job rather than a shortage of drivers
just heard on the news that the government are considering allowing more drivers from abroad by putting them on a 'shortage occupations list', that wouldn't help the 'fuel shortage'!

is this all a set up? :p

Grant Shapps was asked by the reporter 'how quickly can training new drivers start to solve this problem'.....his response...

'there are people right now as we speak who are going through their HGV driving tests who will be able to drive immediately, those are typically people who are returning to the industry, perhaps from a break'

makes no sense...it's just nonsense, or maybe it's cleverly worded

wonder what the next spin will be

Do you have to retake a HGV test every few years or something, is it similar to fork lift licenses where you do refresher courses ?

nope...once you've passed the driving test then that's it, you need a medical 'test' once you're 45 then every 5 years until you're 65 then every year after that

guessing Shapps could argue that he's saying something like 'people who've previously been working in transport driving vans etc are now taking their full HGV test to allow them to drive articulated vehicles'

it stinks!

This is all relatively simple economics. You cant blame people for their perceptions.

YES THERE ARE SHORTAGES BECAUSE OF A LACK OF HGV DRIVERS...

the moment there's a run on anything, this what will happen. It's not because people are thick. Quite the opposite.

We filled up both of our cars at 10:30pm relatively easily at a station off the beaten track. All of the pumps were full, but no queue. We know it from a detour and is about 5 miles away from us. All of the town/city garages are shut and empty. The garage we filled up at had a delivery at 4pm that usually lasts a week and it was half gone.

Monday morning will be fun. Especially for those with no fuel.

Brexit voters... this is what you voted for... and years and years and years of it. And currency getting ****ed because of it.

We'll have to join the Euro if it carries on.
