It's funny how (fuel shortages)

There’s no fuel shortage, or at least there wasn’t until the likes of the DM jumped on board. They should be closed down for inciting chaos. Have enough for about 10 more days. It’ll have blown over by then.

It was the BBC news this morning, tbh they've been pushing it a lot for some reason..

No one is pushing anything, they are reporting the news as it is.

I'm on holiday, currently in Greenock, Scotland and the petrol Stations around me have massive queues with people and and Taxis filling up.

We have ourselves to blame.

I’m not blaming myself, I’m not filling up. The media know exactly what they’re doing.

10 petrol stations close, it makes headline news.
1 random guy makes a quote about station refilling priorities, makes headline news.
A few people start queuing up, again the media are all over it.

It’s a mix of reporting facts and some misreporting that has sent people into a frenzy.

Of course the world living in a ‘just in time’ supply chain doesn’t help and can easily be broken during times like this.

How long do you think until this blows over?

I think we’re looking at a few weeks, it will take awhile for the supply chain to catch up following the big rush.

The loo roll thing took a good 3 weeks before things started to back to normal.

Until all of these morons tanks are full (they’ll stay full because they probably work from home and drop their kids to school at the bottom of their road) and for the supply line to catch up. One would imagine it taking a good few weeks. Hopefully super unleaded is too expensive for them.

Just in time for CO2 shortage again :p

If they stayed full because they wfh why/how would they be buying more fuel?

Not what he said is it?

It just takes enough morons to panic buy. Empties the petrol station tanks. Petrol station has to place order. Happens at enough petrol stations they aren’t all getting their orders next day delivery. If enough morons buy the depots now have the same problem.

Never seen a shortage that was down to anything other than idiots panic buying.

I actually needed fuel as I'm on empty and everywhere is either empty or close to it with queues.

One thing I did do that I wouldn't normally is fill the tank right up. I wouldn't normally do that for the wife's car but I do with the van everytime I need fuel

I seen it on regular TV news, excuse my translation.

" HEY PEOPLE, BP ARE CLOSING PETROL STATIONS, ALL GO OUT AND BUY UP FUEL LIKE YOUR CRAZY"

Nexy day same news station, "OH LOOK THERE ARE PEOPLE PANIC BUYING PETROL, NOTHING TO DO WITH US"

I always brim the tank from as low as a dare get it. It’s rare I go to the filling station without the light on, the only time I would is to avoid a stop on a motorway/trunk road. I don’t really understand why you’d want to visit a filling station any more than was necessary.

Stinky vile places that I’d rather avoid.

Motorway service stations charge about 20p more a litre. Most junctions have a supermarket within 3 miles away

You are right

Still quite bad - I passed 2 fuel stations on my way to work with 5+ car queues into the road. Fortunately managed to get past without having to wait around though.

Apparantly my old faithful will run unmodded on cooking oil in a worst case scenario , think i would put a second fuel filter on though
Anyway filled up from half to full in Rock this afternoon but thats what i normally do, definitely busier than normal but a non emmet place so not too bad

Cycling back from the hospital this afternoon I passed one garage and they were rammed, cars backed up into the road. Saw a bloke I know sat in the queue, stopped to have a chat and he's filled all three of his motors up to the brim today - not because he wants too but because his missus told him to. **** like this sort of makes me glad I can't drive anymore.
