It's too hot :(

Loving the weather today.

Sunbathed in the garden this morning then had lunch outside, my peppers are loving the heat in the greenhouse and I've got 2 hours of tennis this evening followed by footie on TV.

Hope it continues all month.

12p an hour, not exactly bank breaking. I think I'll carry on paying for the electricity and be cool.

If someone said pay me a pound and I'll keep you cool all day I bet you would. :)

The install cost makes it far far higher than 12p per hour though.

Obv not cheap to install, but running costs aren't too bad.

Using about 1kw draw to maintain temps at these levels, don't need it on all the time or year round, just when it's the most beneficial time to use it.

Portable AC wasn't much lower usage but it's less efficient and couldn't cool whole house down.

Mine's rated 2.6kw which is about as much as kettle! Obviously not running constantly it drops in and out to maintain even temperature but still I wouldn't want that running 24/7

Split A/C isn't as expensive as people seem to think it is. I paid £450 and fitted it my self for a 12k BTU unit. Even if it only lasts 5 years it's virtually nothing in the grand scheme of owning a house. It'll probably outlast me living in the house before we move + potentially add value to the property.

Isn't that the cooling performance not the power usage though?

I have a 5.4kw compressor outside but the power usage for that at max draw is like 1.8-2kw probably.

Yeah that is a good price, even if you're not technically meant to install without being f-gas certified, can't argue with that cost.

Plus a lot of people overlook that they can heat as well as cool, so it's a backup to your heating system as well.

Deadlifts in my log cabin gym around 11am, was a sweaty session at 29c.

The portable A/C unit shall be getting some use over the next few days for sure.

Not as hot here today as expected. High of 26.3c this morning around 11 and now a comfortable 23c, clouded over and starting to rain a bit.

36C here. Managed to lay in the sun for a few hours but have come back inside now. Feel like I'm getting a headache so probably overheating

what is this madness :(

I have a wall mounted air conditioning unit (Daikin FTXM25M / RXM25M9) installed in my man cave/home office which gets use everyday, but on days like today it is coming in especially handy.

Has a cooling power 2.5Kw, but on the energy saving settings on a much cooler day it can use as little as 60W to maintain a cool room temp. Today on those same settings it is chugging down 200W+.

Running in maximum cooling mode (which auto disables after 20 mins) with the door shut will have the room ice cold in 5 mins or less. Typically this would use 300W ish on a cool day, now using around 500-550W+.

That outside unit is working overtime on the back of our house, which is facing right into the 32c sun.

We have a portable unit (8,000 BTU) in the bedroom, but it is poor in comparison to my wall mounted unit. Nonetheless it does the job, but sucks up a minimum of 700W on the energy efficient setting, Lol.

My AC cost £3k including installation for 2 units and a total of 8.3kW of overall power, but it doesn't really use that much... had it on the regular low setting overnight and all day today which has been enough to maintain a nice cool 21/22 degrees throughout my whole house (3 storey 4 bed house) and the app is telling me is has used 3.2kWh so far today, costing me probably about 45p. Don't regret getting it one bit

27c indoors today. Cloudy so keeping the worst of the temps off. Oddly slept ok last night despite it being 24c in my room. Luckily the frozen North is nowhere near as hot tomorrow. <20c is fine by me.
