It's too hot :(

My 3 weather apps - inbuilt Apple, BBC and WTForecast have varying temps for 18/7 from 24c - 38c.

How can these vary so much? You don’t get 14c difference in forecasts in the winter or be -3 to 10c

Could someone explain this.

When we have extremely hot weather, there’s a large increase in supermarkets chillers and freezers which get too warm and need to remove the contents. I’m usually one of those that gets roped in to empty them. As I’m pretty fast.

If go to a country where it’s hot like that all summer, why don’t their chillers and freezers pack up?

I remember about 6 years ago we had a hot spell with temps 33-36c for 4 days. We had to put all the fresh and frozen in the back. There were a few colleagues including me who had to get items for customers. It took ages to get the items. “Has anyone seen the feta?” “Do we have any little gems lettuces left?”

Let's hope this doesn't come off:

Every run is trending that way and the min temps aren't far behind... other models seem to be following though the BBC is going against.

I've not looked at what those who actually know what they are talking about are saying yet but the setup leading to it seems to be dragging considerable heat up from the south where temperatures are breaking records so...

EDIT: Though it looks like there will be a fair bit of breeze which will hopefully offset the brutality of it.

What do you need explaining ? If it's warm outside, it warms inside too, the chillers/freezers are only rated to work up to a certain ambient temperature and relative humidity

I'm working all through this heatwave thanks guys for rubbing it in. If it wasn't for child support I could go away. I guess Google maps street view will have to do.

Usually, the equipment used over here just isn't ready to deal with the temperatures we get only occasionally. We had a thermometer with the packs on the roof, when it passed 24°C we would shut down things that didn't need to be chilled, like FRV, to lighten the loads on the packs. Eventually, we finally got new more efficient chillers installed and it was much better, so your chillers might also be old and inefficient.

Tbf, it's not the temperature inside the store that's the issue. If you go into a supermarket on a very hot day, it's often quite cool in there. It's the packs on the roof that struggle. But yes, the entire system is meant to work at normal UK temps, not 30+.

That the chillers and freezers in supermarkets in hot European countries don’t seem to have this issue as their summers are hot.

I have visited a supermarket opened less than 12 months prior and staff were in a rush to empty the freezers.

Also been to Iceland when all their freezers and chillers were packed up. Only could buy bread, cereals, sweets etc

The companies that fix commercial chillers and freezers must be smiling at the weather forecast.

Just been to landfill near Tintagel much better than the Dewsbury one I used to go to ,will get back home dreckly as the Cornish say my left arm is burning even with a 50 plus 5 star suncream

We had air conditioning installed where I live not that long ago... I decided not to bother in my bedroom... a decision I might regret... generally I'm comfortable enough with a small fan pointed at me though.

We just had AC installed, if it was a choice of one or the other, the bedroom is the only place we'd have it. Can't bear it being warm in the bedroom, broken and uncomfortable sleep is way worse than being hot in the day. But we have it in the living room too which is also absolutely bliss. The dog loves it too :D
