It's too hot :(

32C (33C feels like) here.

89 AQ rating

Poor

The air has reached a high level of pollution and is unhealthy for sensitive groups. Reduce time spent outside if you are feeling symptoms such as difficulty breathing or throat irritation.

Tonight is predicted 19C and tomorrow 25C.

Interesting at 1pm 36-37C for London and Leicester. 4pm, London and Leicester temperature barely changes but westen areas suddenly get a 4C drop. Wednesday and Thursday those of us in the heatwave parts of the country manage to get down to 26C, but still 5-8C hotter than the west. Only by the weekend the temperatures move closer to each across the country.
So its still going to be hot here, just not hot hot, and for 3rd week of July 26C probably is cooler than usual for Leicester.

I really am jealous of those western temperatures though, summers are just so much fresher and pleasant in the west.

The reason seems to be rain, rain today looks like will be limited to the west. London and Leicester might get weak storms on Wednesday, London predicted to get a proper one on Friday, but that one wont make it north of London.

Yeah, another good nights sleep here. Okay, I am actually curious as I don't really get it. Maybe don't post specifically to answer, but next time you do post you can let us know, are you -

A) Just can't afford an air conditioner
B) Can't justify the expense of AC for 'just a few days of use a year'
C) Don't have the space for AC
D) Morally against AC due to environmental damage
E) Something else
F) Yes, I have AC and the last few days have been just fine thanks.

Just curious :)
F..

Portable units, only used when needed, wheeled away the rest of the time..

I think if I could justify split units I'd like those, but know we'd use those more often and overall the install + running costs just financially is too much, we are relatively happy with the portable units, maybe used 2 weeks a year at most and only for a handful of hours on an evening to get to sleep/take the heat out the room until the outside temp drops.

Got my AC unit installed last week for the home office. Left the bedroom door open and have a fan blowing cold air from the office to the bedroom. Shut the windows and was cool enough all night. Wife complained it was too cold
I am tempted to get a single AC unit installed on my landing. The bathroom and the 3 bedrooms are next to each other, typical 3 bed semi (1940s). I will assume that a single AC unit cooling the landing and fans pointing toward the rooms wold be enough to cool them to a decent sleeping temperature?

Splits and be used to heat as well as cool. I read somewhere, might be MoneySavingExpert, not sure, that AC installations can work out cheaper to heat the house compared to GFCH. Heat pumps are meant to be the best though.

Cooling towels can be a godsend in these temps, been using mine at home and work since finding it again on Sunday.

Just popped outside and it's surprisingly windy, but unusually a rather warm wind that isn't refreshing.

The schools here broke up 7/8 July. There's no point in those schools still open - staying open today. Besides, who learns anything new at school during the final week? We just played games, watched films etc.

Reminds me of the summer holiday we took to the US and Canada in 1991. We started off in Florida so we could go to the Kennedy Space Centre to see a shuttle take off. We were in self catering accomodation and the building was air conditioned. Mum and I walked out of the building to go the car and when we opened the door of the buildng we were hit by the heat and humidity. Wasn't expecting it and had never experienced anything like that, before or since! Was an eye opener to how some parts of the states must be in summer.
Then get terrific thunderstorms and showers some evenings. So much so, that shoes get ruined. Good job for the factory outlets Florida has:D

grats you'll get to use it for 2 weeks a year

Getting pretty tired of this getting spewed out by people. We use ours May to September at least. It's not just 3 days a year. If you don't mind being warm at night and can sleep ok, fine, but for those of us that like it cool it's an absolute god send and it's used a lot.
