It's too hot :(

If you not used before. I recommend www.ventusky.com for global weather. Plus gives historical weather for up to the last 43 years. Great if you planning holidays somewhere.

This was the date when I got pelted down with massive hailstones in Sicily, north of Ragusa.

Getting pretty tired of this getting spewed out by people. We use ours May to September at least. It's not just 3 days a year. If you don't mind being warm at night and can sleep ok, fine, but for those of us that like it cool it's an absolute god send and it's used a lot.
Yep.

We're going to look at more passive methods to keep our south-facing rooms cool, which will be external window awnings, blinds, or even metal rollers, to stop the heat getting in from outside so we don't need to use any energy to cool those rooms that are normally getting warm.

Where we have an office with two gaming PCs though, is on the north-side. Because we're always generating the heat internally, we need to cool the room, so we might get a portable unit and make it semi-permanent with a vent through the wall. We'll cool the room overnight passively (open/vented windows) and then use the AC unit to maintain a reasonable temperature throughout the day which will minimise energy usage. We'd likely need to use it from April to October as outside temperatures often aren't cold enough to just have the window open to keep the room in check.

In what way is a portable AC effort?

Venting the hot air.

Unless it's something you plan to leave in place permanently - hole in the wall etc. The only place I've got to vent is directly out the window, which then means I'd need to build some plate to hold the exhausting pipe and seal the gaps in the window.

It's perfectly do-able, but for 2 days I see it as too much faff.

Same problem id have here really, upstairs Windows only open at the top and hinge out.

Toasty in Yorkshire but nice for my drive back to Cornwall tomorrow

Just went outside in the sun for a few seconds. I am surprised how hot it is. Getting to dangerous levels now. 37C by 12pm, wow. It's seriously hot.
