It's too hot :(

36c here at the moment. Should be close to 40c by mid afternoon.

Just went outside and it was like walking into an oven :p

I've borrowed a portable AC unit that's a bit weak, but it does the job cooling one room reasonably well.

25C upstairs flat (got it down to 22c overnight with windows opens at midnight shut at 7am 2x fans running from sah window apertures )
Am keeping cool all windows shut and curtains blinds.
I don't recommend this (particularly if you have pets kids) but if you are really struggling fan grill removal = far more efficient fan:)

The foam base below fan is because WFH KAREN downstairs has tinitus and complained about noise!
She's currently got all the ******* windows open downstairs and heat rises in these old places

post office have prioritised large letters, parcels and tracked letters/parcels. The normal post will resume Thursday I think. posties are saying its a god send with these smaller and shorter deliveries but dreading the back log later in the week.

I see, can understand with the heat, but at the same time though others are still working outside, they normally stroll round in shorts, t-shirt and hat anyway and are finished by the time its the hottest part of the day, so not sure what the big deal for them not working is.

Even with temps dropping doesn't look like any significant rain anytime soon here. Do need some rain!

Yellow warning of thunderstorms for us tomorrow afternoon. Which means we’ll get nothing. With the wind picking up it’s raining dead leaves out of the trees. We really need some rain.

Freeballing, if you will.

so for those with portable A/C units, what do you do with the exhaust hose? The window kit supplied with ours is designed for sash windows, not casemates like we have. Did you have to bodge something up to fit it?

We have mid pvot windows, however there are window kits on Amazon for every size and type of window - ours is two parts: one for the upper half (that pivots into the room) and one for the lower half (that pivots outside).

I'm watering the potted trees everyday.

I don't know if I'm imagining it but the garden oak tree looked 'wilted' today. It may be fine. But it is fairly isolated from other trees so bears the full heat.

Grass is really browning. The wild part of the garden looks nearly Dead. Only the indestructible ragwort looks good!

I went back inside after sitting in the sun for 5 minutes this morning so I can't say I blame them :p

I heard that putting hosepipe talk in the news just makes people water their gardens.
I'm sure most will be watering anyway in this heat, our lawn has gone brown as it's not rained for a good few weeks
Affinity Water have requested that we don’t use them. More to do with water processing and low pressure rather than reserve issues I believe. That’s not my problem tbh, they just need to invest more in their infrastructure.
Yeah that's on them for not having infrastructure to meet demand vs supply issues which bring the bans

Still surprised most of the lakes are below average, regional total is 11% below average, I wonder what the threshold is for asking for no hosepipe use, it must be close
