It's too hot :(

Says A reading so can't be terrible, who cares anyway only for the odd night and for an hour or two to cool the room down then switch it off.
Na you need to have these on constantly. I've lived in places with air con and as soon as you switch it off, the room gets hot again in 5 to 10mins

29c daytime 19c outside right now, yesterday that was the daytime temperature thats a rise of 10c overnight

Thinking of getting one of these for the bedroom to tide us over until we get a full split unit.

Should cool the bedroom down nicely.
Thats the one I bought and from the same place dunno about efficiency but it keeps the room bearable anything else is secondary. And yes it is noisy.

31c here in Reading. Higher than expected
Same here forecast 26 and hit 30 briefly

God, I love this weather, shame we only get three or four months of it in a year.
That's far too much, I'm happy with a 2 at most. I mean I do love a bit of sun of course but not for ages, Autumn is my favourite. God knows how they put up with it in South America, 25c plus all year round.. I supposed they're used to it though.

Being a fair weather cyclist, I wish it was reversed, 9 months of warm/hot weather, and three months Autumn/Winter.

I cycle in all weathers and this is verging on a little too much already. I mean, it's nice, I did 100km yesterday, but it saps your energy more. Given the choice I would love to set out in the morning around 17°C and finish at lunch time around 24°C. Yesterday was 20 then 30... today looks similar.

I doubt the room will go above ambient no matter what so it won't need to be on all the time.
Just need to cool the room down after it's heated up all day with the sun. Once it's down to night time temperature it'll be fine.

I love how people that have air conditioning, or buildings built for hot weather find that us as a country that build for cold weather struggle when it gets hot. Common sense really, it's also a lot harder to cool down than warm up.

I live in the UK in a 1950s built house that isn't designed for hot weather. So I'm in the same situation.

The only place I agree is not agreeable is the tube in London.

We ran our portable unit yesterday for two hours. Got the temp down from 23C to 21.5C. Had all the windows slightly ajar after that (overnight temp dropped from 21 to 18) and the room heated itself back up again to 23C. There’s so much heat energy in the rest of the house.

Not sure how to play today. The study with our PCs in is still 23C and that’s before I’ve turned the PC on.

Need someone to drop £3k in my lap so I can get a two unit mini split system :D

Our houses are built to keep heat in. So that’s why we struggle with hot weather.

My friend’s parents used to live in house built in the 1780s and that kept cool in the summer.

Helps that my bedroom has east facing window. My parents have west facing windows in their bedroom and it gets warm very quickly.

At my previous home that i lived with my parents, my bedroom was facing SW. That was hell. Couldn’t have the curtains open as street light shining through the window. Used to have a ceiling fan plus two fans on. Cooled down the bedroom but was like trying sleep under a helicopter taking off

The thing is it's not as if the UK has never been warm in the summer. It's as if it's a shock every time it gets above 25C (which isn't particularly hot).

If it was 35C+ for months then I think the argument about not being built for it would come in to it and the infrastructure would need to adapt.

People complain about being too cold in the winter. It just seems people are never happy! :D

Well my missus said a flat NO to getting a A/C as she deems it pointless and inefficient to have. If we had solar panels and a air source heat pump then she may be interested

front of my house is west facing and the back of it is east facing . This means that in the mornings, the back of the house is hot and during mid afternoon, the front of the house gets hot(where my office and man den is)

I have lived in the philippines before and its super hot there. However, there is a reason why people are not out and about walking freely for long during the mid day…

It’s why schools and business’s start way early(6am) and why people actually take naps/breaks during the midday too.

Also, most commercial places have air cons on full blast and some houses have them too.

Houses there dont have triple insulation like ours too.

This is what i said earlier!!! It’s harder to cool down a room then to warm up a room.

And cooling down a room takes up as much electricity as heating up a whole house…
