ok the drag and drop issue started with an argument a while ago on the forums. Basically, the reason i said its not drag and drop with an ipod is that you cant drag a folder into itues and have it sync to the ipod in exacty the same order as that folder. Not unless the tags are perfect.
The definition of 'drag and drop' is to directly manipulate a file into a folder. you're not doing this with itunes because the ipod builds its own database and creates its own file order on the player itself.
UMS mp3 players dont do this. with my iriver h10 or my i-station i2, i just plug it in, acees it as a removable drive and drop the folder straight on. Thats drag and drop.
* serious audio ripper
firstly encoding - you cant customise the software enough. You can't use the latest version of the best mp3 encoder (lame) and you cant use the advanced options. All that means the files produced wont sound as good as a proper encoded lame file.
secondly, as a ripper, it is nowhere near as good as EAC - widely regarded as the best ripper there is, especially with scraqtched or damaged disks.
EAC+ lame as far as im concerned are the best you can get. Unless, as i have said before, you want to use a lossless codec. in which case EAC is still the best ripper, and works perfectly well with say...monkies audio for instance.
so - itunes is not the best ripper.
* not the best audio player
Well this is an easy one, really. What you want from an audio player is pretty personal really, but one thing that is for certain is that any player+kernal streaming will produce a better sound quality than itunes which, unless this has changed recently, doesnt have that capability. everything else is optional but for S.Q, itunes looses.
* installs needless services
well, ive just explained this one. relying on quicktime full and installing the ipod services even if you dont have one. its not needed.

I'm not sure what you take issue with, tell me entering a thread about using an iPod as a removable drive and posting

thats why i like mp players that are true removable drives. no messing with extra software and no limitations just plug and go.
adds to the thread? Oh you like players that aren't iPods? I needed a reminder, thanks.
because using an ipod as such is a pain in the arse. everything has to be seperate and you're limited in the removable drive size. with ums players you are not. I didnt realise you wanted it this simple.
any other questions, fire away
