Jack Straw has the right idea!

Aren't muslim women the greatest example of a non-free people in the world today?
Hold on . . how are women any different to the guys in Islam? The western world feels they're 'oppressed' whilst the muslim women feels 'liberated'.

When you start to use your yard stick to measure right and wrong, there's obviously going to be issues.

I'm not sure if you're trying to wind me up, given that you have never made such a strong statement on the issue before but I will answer anyway.

I cannot tell you if this is the case, but whilst Muslim women may hide themselves from the world there are still practices that are far worse and even practices that we abide by in the UK. There are so many things wrong with the entire planet's attitude towards women that it makes me angry on occaision.

i read it as though gilly was agreeing with you there tbh.

you think similar to me, free of thought, and under no illusions of religion. however i do see the other side of it, and that is peer pressure or whatever you would like to call it. its a different world being a muslim, doesnt mean i agree though. but thats freedom of speech. :)

I completely agree with Jack Straw

'liberated' is a rebellious term used by Muslims to ignore the fact that covering the face of an individual is opressive. It robs them of an identity.

. . . . . Re-e-wind?

Let me tell you something I absolutely LOVE about Overclockers, the reason I post on here all the time and something that I only recently realised we probably owe Spie considerably for...

FREE SPEECH

This must be the only board where I feel free to say whatever I like, as long as I express it politely

Rewind it all you like, I have not used the terms 'right' or 'wrong' so your comment hold no salience to what I have said. I do not care for your concepts of halal and haram behaviour, I hold compassion for everyone as a human being and that is something far beyond and above what any book could tell me.

I think he's probably the first labour MP to actually say something i agree with in a long time...

Veils sort of, just block other people out and don't really have that "come and make friends with me and bond with me and integrate" feel about them. Maybe this is the sort of thing is some of the reason why some Muslims can't integrate/become part of Britain.

For those who actually study islam and not just follow it blindly will realise that the intention of any form of hijab is to not attract attention to oneself, the full on hijab (with slit eye type headdress) doesnt actually achieve anything of the sort in this country so is therefore contradictory to what is actually trying to be achieved here.

Irony is that if some of these women had worn the std garb, ie just covering the hair and not showing the body outline, nobody would be bothered, but with the full on ninja style dress...........

And dark_shadow the teachinbg arent 100% clear on the matter, even in the recognised hadith, there is no hard and fast rule, apart from dressing modestly guidelines.
