Far more potential than Akinfeev not as good at the moment as neuer or lloris but all the potential in the world. At a guess I'd say we'd ask Vds to stay on for a year and work beside him I these rumours were true. I'd be pleased though.

Managing director Wolfgang Holzhauser confirmed the curious clause, saing: "It is an escape clause with a difference, because it only refers to one club. If United offer a certain amount, we have to let Rene go. He has always supported them, and he wanted to make sure the door was open, should they come calling. I know they have watched him quite a few times, so it may be difficult for us."

Should get Carroll for around 20 mill. Bargain.

He's light years ahead of most of the premier forwards already, and will only improve further given his age.

And Man Utd only have 2 forwards of any note, the rest are lightweight.

Good player but I don't think he'd suit us at the moment. There's other areas we need to strengthen (although unless someone special shows up I think summer is the right time for that).

I think he'd be a good player for some clubs but he's down the pecking order with us now. Probably my second choice rb (after rafael) at the moment though so I'd probably keep him until the summer.

Does anyone know the specifics of the new rules coming in, can't play in Europa/Champs league unless you break even over 3 years, thats the general gist of it right?

But does that mean, starting next season City would be unable to actually qualify straight off, or it starts from next season so if they make a loss from the 2011-2012 season, to the 2013-2014 season, then the season after they wouldn't qualify for european competition unless they had averaged breaking even by then?

When I first heard about it I assumed it would just be some mental 200mil a year shirt deal from one of the owners companys to City, which would cover the wages.

Either way, wouldn't it make sense for them to, if they really wanted to, go absolutely nuts this transfer window, and replace every useless pile of poop with a 30-50mil super high quality player, assuming of course a massive loss this year wouldn't be counted towards the 3 year average.

Transfer values have to be amortized across the length of the contract so if you buy in this window even if you pay all your cash upfront it still shows on folllowing years account. Their biggest problem is their wage bill, at the moment it's over 100% of turnover. Even assuming a fairly dramatic rise of 50mill in sponsorship that would still leave them in trouble. They need to reduce numbers in their squad.

As far as i know if we qualify for the champions league this year then were are there and our losses are not counted. However if we post big losses end of 11-12 season then we are not? anyways never in a million years would Sheikh Mansour have bought all these players if it meant we can't get in the champions league? So i am not worried about not being 'allowed' in.

Already started with RSC and Bridge. SWP should be following shortly and hopefully Mourinho comes through and takes Adebayor. That immediatly knocks off quite a bit. RSC/Bridge/SWP are roughly on the same 4m and Adebayor is on around 8m i think. So theres roughly 20m gone. Next season Kolo Toure/Given/Jo will also leave, Viera is also retiring so theres another 5m off. I am confident we can make the rules tbh

Probably, it does mean you can't replace them like for like though. The era of big spending is over.

I see where you coming from but i have full faith in Sheikh and his 'advisors' know what to do and they will sort it out.
End of next season an incredible amount of wages are going to be gone i reckon,
Were talking Adebayor(140k)/RSC(80k)/Given(80k)/Lescott(90k)/Bridge(90k)/SWP(80k) all with a good chance of leaving.

Yep but there you go, you've signed Dzeko on around 150k or so I guess? so that's RSC and Given gone just to break even again, and you can't just break even, you have to reduce the wage bill. Similarly you're going to take a big hit on the transfer fees even having to send them out on season long loans again in the future, so while your amortization cost may reduce it will be at a rate not stacked in your favour as clubs know you need to get rid. You look at the big signing of Dzeko if we say 30million that's 6million a year over the next 5 years added. If you get rid of say Lescott and Given you won't get 30million for the two combined but you'll probably be ridding yourselves of around 6million a year amortization balancing out on a 2-1 basis but obviously they've been at the club for longer and were only going to be showing on the charge for another couple of years whereas Dzeko is a fresh 5 years just at the start of the recording period.

My thought is that, Man City need champions league this season and will pretty much cut right back on spending unless they can flog 2-3 players in order to fund one big buy to balance the charging.
I think UEFA might be pretty lenient if they see clubs making an effort to reduce their losses but they certainly won't accept it if you say: 'Hi, we want to get in, we've been working to reduce our spending loads. Oh we're just going to bid 50million for Bale here but yeah, we're definitely reducing our spending.'
