To be fair, Suarez is comfortably > Babel, so even though Carroll < Torres, you've just about managed to break even there.

Pretty much, players might as well be contracted on a window to window basis

Guess that makes Andy Carroll the most expensive British player of all time (although in real terms, Rio Ferdinand probably runs him close).

A long term contract just means it'll cost more to buy it out if someone really wants/needs the player involved - i.e Carroll

Probably still Ferdinand if you factor in inflation etc.
