January Transfer Window 2010/2011 Season Rumours/Signings

Sky Sports sources understand Johan Elmander could be the man Newcastle turn to after offloading Andy Carroll to Liverpool. The Swede is currently with Bolton but will see his contract expire at the end of the season and the Trotters may look to cash in.

To think I dared leave the internet for a few hours. ITS BACK ON HOORAY. I've got to go dig all my jokes out of the bin.

This thread is almost as good as the one when Arsenal signed Reyes. I hope Carroll is as he good for Newcastle as Jose was for us. :D

SSN says Newcastle might be looking at Elmander...
Perfect replacement there, and hasn't he only got six months left on his contract? Get him in for a low fee and Newcastle are laughing.

Last year liverpool payed something in the region of 35-40 million on .........interest payments on a loan taken out by gillett and hicks. So, the way i see it NESV Have spent the same amount of money on a young striker who is a bit of a gamble but even if we sell him in a year for 20 million we still have not wasted 35 million like hicks/gillett did.

If Torres deal goes a head it means NESV will have only spent around £5m on getting 2 players in...Be nice to see how much money they are really willing to invest in the team.

Could go up to £15m if we get Adam....Role on the Summer and we will see how much they REALLY are willing to spend

Also, it appears as if Chelsea have paid the full £50m for Torres. I wonder if people are still unsure why we didn't take the £35m offer now.

I think Liverpool were quite shrewd and basically said Chelsea, we can't get our replacement (Carroll) for a sensible price, they are taking the urine, so if if you want Torres you are going to have to make up the difference. Any less than £15m net for Torres-Carroll would have left a nasty taste in the mouths of many scousers I fear.

The word from Liverpool was that we were never going to take less than £50m for him anyway.

It's not a surprise we've been taken to the cleaners by Newcastle, didn't think it would be quite this bad though.

edit: Talk that David Luiz's move to Chelsea might be off again. Benfica are having 2nd thoughts.

They fight! They bite! They fight and bite and fight! Fight fight fight! Bite bite bite! The Carroll and Suarez Show!

Yea, £35m is a lot for an injured woman beater. However, he may be a little more spirited than Torres.

Yeah most likely (especially from fat cat clubs like Chelsea) but it probably gave you that bit of extra ammunition to persuade them to up their offer. Just the same as how when it came to Newcastle, they could reject a £30m bid and say hold on a minute, you've got a cheque for 50 big ones being cashed in the morning, stump up a bit extra for our lad.
