I think he is very over rated. Apparently the fee is going to be very small though 'cos he'll only have 6 months left on his contract.

With CB's its insanely hard to judge, its all about partnerships to be honest.

The question isn't really if Cahill is the bestest CB ever, its will he form a great partnership with one or more of the CB's at Chelsea. Realistically, only time will tell, a great CB can look crap in new team with a crap partner(Koscielny with Djourou and Koscielny with even Mertesacker looks FAR better, with Vermaelen you would be hard pushed to recognise him as the same player).

A very good and short point from DM  :p

Skrtel looks like an accident waiting to happen when he plays alongside Carragher; he looks nervous and his performance is erratic at best. Alongside Agger though he's looks a totally different player; he's calm and considered, and also looks to play the ball out of the back (which he's very capable of doing), rather than attempting the trademark Carra chip.

Well the stupid thing about it was last year I said Kos/Squillaci were crap, Squillaci just looked miles off the pace, tonnes of individual errors, useless. I said several times last season Kos I haven't seen with a decent partner so can't be sure if he's actually bad or not.

The stupid part is despite watching Djourou every game make mistake after mistake, being clumsy, getting caught out and strikers not finish their chances, everyone was hailing Djourou as brilliant and Kos as a lost cause already. This year everyone thinks Djourou is a joke and Kos is doing pretty well.

Just funny that we get Verm back, but still end up playing Djourou due to stupid fullbacks. Gibbs should be cut, doesn't matter how good a player is if they aren't fit, throwing money down the drain on him and Diaby, lol, how many millions has he been paid when not even playing vs how many he's been paid while fit. Probably talking about the guy having made 10-12mil off Arsenal by now, of which maybe at best 2-3mil was while he was fit........ worst of all, he's utter gash when fit anyway.

Chelsea will have a problem with what to do with Luiz if Cahill signs. Luiz has messed up a lot but before the suspension/injury he seemed to have sorted himself out and only made 1 glaring mistake in the last 2 games (admittedly that was in the first 2mins).

Luiz could move to midfield but there are lots of cover there. Could mean a sale but cant see them wasting 24mill after the flop of torres.

Was chatting about Chelsea earlier today, IMO casting Alex aside is a mistake, would love him at Arsenal to replace Squilacci but Wenger has said he won't buy a CB.

In terms of Cahill maybe he is viewed more as a long-term successor to Terry than necessarily a first choice partner. If it wasn't for injuries I'd recommend they just sign a pre-contract agreement for him to join in the summer on a Bosman.

As for Koscielny I've always felt/stated he looks decent just sometimes gets caught making challenges a bit high up the pitch i.e. allowing strikers to roll him. Having him in the team doesn't worry me whereas some of our other defenders do.

When fit the first choice back four for me would be Vermaelen, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Sagna - many view playing Verm at LB as a waste BUT my view on these type of situations is very much that playing players not in their best position isn't necessarily a bad idea if it improves the team overall. Fact is we have 3 CBs who are all better defenders than our 2 so-called LBs so it makes sense to move Vermaelen across (he is not only the best CB at the club, but also the best LB). In some ways it's a bit like Gallas at Chelsea - was he a good CB, yes, does that mean playing him at LB was a mistake, no, since he was the best LB.

Rumours about Henry joining Arsenal on loan seem to be mounting, as Wenger has now made some comments about the prospect: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16324231.stm

Personally I think he'd be good cover while Chamakh and Gervinho are at the ACoN, our previous short-term resignings of "past it" invincibles (Campbell, Lehmann) were actually pretty successful. I've always felt Henry had a lot more to his game than just pace, I'd not expect him to play at the same level as before but he can be very creative, in fact I'm fairly sure he used to hold the record for most assists in a season (maybe he still does, it was like 23 which obliterates the competition most seasons). He's been training at the club for a while so hopefully will have got to know how the current team play, considered a legend by the fans so even having him warmup on the touchline would lift the crowd.

edit: Also some talk of Wenger pursuing a loan move for a LB, Bridge has been mentioned but I still have nightmares about what happened last season when he went to West Ham, he was so far off the pace in his first game it was unbelievable, Walcott didn't even need a glass of milk to wash him down. I can't think of a worse performance by a Premiership player in 2011.

kaka is too delicate a flower for the EPL. He gets bullied quite a lot in the la liga games i've seen this season.

Seems RM are looking to offload some of the surplus stars, ozil is being linked with a move away due to his lack of ability to train and perform to the very highest levels. My guess is a move back home.
