So far rebuilding Man Utd to compete with the best in Europe is a fail, the only way to do it properly is get some of the best midfielders in Europe in Man Utd.

I just dont get how Man Utd are 2nd this year and how they were up there last year. Either everyone else is that bad or they are lucky or maybe they are better than people seem to think...?

Err rooney and nani. I've said this so many times. A lot of our players aren't the best but they do the teamwork and effectively get carried by our best players.
Having players like rooney, nani ronaldo etc often meant we could play directly -;give it to a supertalented individual and let them bomb away on the stokes and swanseas of the world.

Sadly now we have fewer players who can do this and rooney is blowing hot and cold. we aren't playing much worse as a team ( go reach man ltd vs blackpool from last year and you'll see) we are just lacking that sparkle up top. and in net. lets not forget how immense vds was the last few seasons.

Now we have seemingly random defensive line ups with players out of position all over the shop. defenders into midfiel? Wrong wrong wrong.

if you want to play good football you put midfielders into defence ( except for m carrick) and pack the midfield with..err.. great midfielders. look at barca - they don't put puyol into midfield because that would be stupid - proven defenders simply don't pass as well as true midfielders, Jones is living proof of this for all of his energy and enthusiasm. putting masch into defense allows you to play football from the back. putting Jones into central midfield is simply desperation and a sign of what kind of football fergie wants us to play, and it clearly isn't a passing game.

Either that or he has no options in CM at all... ;)

that's not the problem. the issue we have is that jones actually looks half decent and extremely lively compared to the rest of our cm's.

but this is just a symptom of how bad the rest of our cms really are - not how good Jones really is.

Thats clearly incorrect as Jones' has been getting games for England in midfield also, ahead of players like Lampard.

What I find someone ironic is that Jones' biggest strength playing in midfield is the one sole trait that all Anderson's fanboi's bang on about - his ability to run with the ball make surging inroads into the box, the irony being that Jones has already proved he's infinitely better at it.

Is this the england game where Jones kept punting 47 yard hollywood passes too long or off the pitch? Or making the wrong decision after a gut busting run?

If Jones wasnt playing for Man Utd, do you think he would be in englands midfield? Honest question...

It's all about profile, profile, profile.

its like when i saw Chris smelling playing right back for England (awfully) i knew something was wrong.

is it that he is the best English rb around? better than micah Richards?

anyway how can you use the actions of a madman who calls up smile heskey and plays him in an important game we need to score goals in? i think its fair to say that capello does not know his donkey from his elbower. so Im sorry i can't take that as being indicative of anything.

It's not really as simple as that though is it, Jones was courted by numerous clubs in the summer and had he not signed for United he'd of signed for someone else. It's not like he's an average player that's getting a game purely because of the club he plays for. Also IIRC when he got his games in midfield for England he'd only actually played there once for United (against Liverpool)

I guess whether or not he's simply the best of a bad bunch like you said depends on how you rate England's other midfielders. He's obviously getting games there for United at the moment due to the lack of other options.

"Nobody's from Switzland" might be slightly harsh but they're not a side that should be knocking Utd out of the CL.

I disagree, away games in the cl are never a given, nobody has a right to go away in Europe and just expect a win, maybe barca. That said they should have beaten them at home, but I'd hazard to say it was the same arrogance that fan showed there which was their downfall in that ga e

so you have nothing to say about smalling or heskey ? when a manager does these things i can't take his decisions seriously Im afraid. capello clearly saw fergie do it and thought he could get a piece of that action.

Jones is misplaced as a.midfielder - let him play out of the back 4 like a poor mans mascherano and put someone who can pass a bit in midfield says i.

Hmmm seems like Barca have beaten RM to sign Neymar from Santos...this according to the spanish guy on skysports, Guillem Balague or however you spell his name lol.

Will be interesting to see how well he pairs up with Messi and co when and if they decide to sign him.

I don't think Smalling's best position is at RB no, he doesn't offer enough going forward to be a RB (not when compared with Jones anyway). There's nothing to suggest who England's first choice RB is at the moment though, come the Euro's I'd probably bet Johnson will be playing there not Smalling.

As for Mascherano Barca only play him as a CB when they're out of options (I'd guess that's the same for Argentina)

50 million quid :rolleyes:Yay for Spanish football

I wonder how many strikers Barca will go through with Messi there until they all realise they're only there to give the ball to him and not score themselves? :p

I can only assume Neymar's being brought in to replace Villa?

So much talent there already not getting sufficient game time though (Thiago being one)
