January Transfer Window 2012/2013 Season Rumours/Signings

Yep I don't see moutinho happening at all (if it was even close...). Sig is still young, but has to improve a lot to make it past squad player at the most.

Ive not seen Holtby in action but if he does live up to the hype (he certainly seems to be well regarded here and Germany) he should be a good player for us - I'd love it if he developed into a ballack/lampard esque midfielder.

I think Holtby is a brilliant player. How much have you signed him for/are signing him?

Yes it's Goal.com and they talk a lot of rubbish but if it's true about the negotiator then maybe Arsenal are going to push it and get him.

It would be interesting to see him at Arsenal, deadly finisher.

Again as much as i love Villa, i just cannot for the life of me see where he will fit in??. Walcott wants to play through the middle, Giroud also wants to play through the middle and same with Pod as well. Unless Wenger plays Villa as a winger but thats not his favoured position. No doubt Wenger will do what he always does and play people completely out of position :/

Meh cant see it happening though, why would Villa come to a side that no longer poses any real threat to challenge for trophies. If i was him, id stay at Barca...at least they win trophies:p.

Wenger needs to buy some defenders ie LB and RB for a start as Sagna is useless and Gibbs is just too injury prone for my liking. Some defenders would be a start to fixing our problems.

The Sun says Beckham is training with Arsenal at the moment to keep his fitness up. Would love to keep him until the end of the season. Nice to have someone who can whip a ball into the box, line up a few headers for Giroud.

Villa at left back, and Walcott to be shown as a moron when Beckham with zero pace makes a vastly better winger than Walcott, by not being a total *****, and actually being capable of passing and crossing.... :p

Fact is Villa is on north of 100k a week, probably 150k +, he's older and he has far better choices than Arsenal both if he wants to actually win stuff in the next few years, and FAR FAR better choices for a payday, Turkey, City, Chelsea, Bayern is a possibility(though not sure how he got on with Guardiola), MLS, whatever else.

Where do we compete for a player like him, and that is of course ignoring Wenger, I'd gladly see him play wide instead of Walcott, but will Wenger drop Walcott who he just gave 100k a week(or 90k, it was unclear what he finally got), for a guy who wants even more, no is the plainly obvious answer to that.

I think villa replacing Giroud in first team will both make Giroud worse as he doesn't look a good sub, nor great without games under his belt, and Podolski/Santi I don't think will play that well with Villa.

Again any other manager takes over, Walcott gets laughed out the club, Villa gets signed, he finds a way to use our best players most effectively. With Wenger, Villa would be both utterly wasted, misused, and the whole thing will just be Wenger wasting more cash.

Two fullbacks would vastly improve the team, Villa I think would make it worse in terms of how the front 3 and Santi need to play for them all to work well(Ie a guy in the middle who can bring them all into the game, not a off the shoulder striker who can't). City are supposedly selling Balotelli, Tevez wants to see out his contract, leaving Aguero and Dzeko who is himself seemingly unhappy at not being first team, and with Mancini being a ****, so he might want out as well, leaving, a whole lotta space for Villa, at a team with painfully bigger chance of winning titles in the next crucial 2-4 years of Villa's career.

A lot rests on Holtby over the next few months. Dembele and Sandro/Parker make for an effective pairing at breaking up attacks and bringing the ball out of defence but we have lacked a killer ball all season.

Defoe has prospered because his spin, shoot, celebrate/wince routine has been our main outlet for goals. Whilst we have been excellent at retaining possession we have been poor at breaking down a team.

The players who are losing out are Bale, Lennon, Dempsey and Adebayor. The have to drop deep a lot to get into the the game. Dempsey and Siggy both need to be played in and their future at spurs will be striker/LW for Dempsey and LW for Siggy.

Holtby will have a lot resting on his shoulders as he plays behind the striker or as an advanced midfielder playing our attackers "in".

I disagree we need a finisher; obviously having Falcao or some superstar is a bonus but Defoe has been banging them in this season and Adebayor was excellent last season.

What we need is a killer ball. Willian can provide that but Levy has gone with Holtby (William is also likely to be way out of our league).

Has anyone ever watched Holtby? I'm massively dubious, mainly because no one else has gone in for him/Schalke have let him go... and even now, the fee to get him early's tiny compared to, for example, the fees which were mooted when people were talking about Liverpool signing Walcott this January.

Us and Arsenal were rumoured to be interested. And he's actually said that he didn't want to play in the Bundesliga any more that's why he hasn't signed a new contract with Shalke.

Could well be more to do with his contract, I don't think he was on much at Schalke, so they probably couldn't charge too much as he'd just buy out his contract instead.

when was the last time defoe scored? manu has scored 1, maybe 2 this season! if we had a finisher, we'd have beaten man u, qpr and others i've forgotten about. it's a definite problem. even more if defoe is out.

Originally we signed him on a FREE in the summer, but we've now paid £1.5m to have him in January

don't want to split hairs but it may have been euro's not £ either way, it could be a very wise move.

As far as I know, no player in any of the major European Leagues have ever bought out their contract and I'm all but certain that it can't be done in January anyway.

I thought they could in their last year/6 months, could have sworn that was being said last summer about a few players.

The only thing I know of is the Webster ruling that allows any player that's been at a club for 2 or 3 years (depending whether they signed their deal before they turned 28) could buyout the remainder of their contract and were free to join who they like. As far as I know this can only be done during the summer transfer window though.

The last I heard of this ruling was a few years ago when some small foreign club were in a legal battle with their player that was trying to take advantage of this rule and the old G-14 clubs were paying their legal fees. I've not heard of any major incident where a player has bought out his deal since then and it was reported at the time that the top sides believed they could challenge the ruling in court.
