January Transfer Window 2012/2013 Season Rumours/Signings

Whilst I dont agree with Frank's OTT assertion that Ferdinand and Vidic are on their last legs I do feel we now need a top class center back to compliment the potential of Smalling, Jones and Evans so that would be the first position I'd like us to strengthen....

Second would on the wings. I'm usually not an advocate of wanting players sold but Young needs to go, without doing the I told you so that ****** the hell off of me when I see the likes of Nickg do it I did say at the time of his signing that Young wasn't good enough and so has proven to be the case. Young's so far removed from the level we should have he's practically got Liverpool written all over him. If Nani stays then this position is not so much of a problem area but the writing looks to be on the wall for him so we'll be desperately short in this area of the pitch come the summer.

Lastly and most obviously the midfield, I still think Dembele would have been perfect but he's been and gone so we need to find someone else capable of not only driving forward but being a dominant presence in there as well, Fellaini could be an option especially after hearing Phil Neville saying that the player himself feels his best position is defensive midfield but for me he's always looked at his best being further forward so I'm not sure.... we also need someone who can spot a pass (pardon the cliche), the difference Scholes' passing makes when he comes on compared to that of the likes of Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson etc etc is staggering but then where do you find somone as good as Scholes? Impossible and probably why we haven't signed anyone up till now.

So yeah 3 or 4 players needed imo which is worrying because in the summer I would have said we only needed one :(

If Vidic comes back and is OK for the rest of the season then we are fine at CB imo, Smalling and Evans will make an awesome partnership one day and that's not even considering Jones.

Buttner will keep us going until Fabio comes back - hopefully he can kick on as his brother has done, it's hard to believe they are actually the same age in development terms.

Wanyama would be a decent addition in midfield but I fear he'd be massively overpriced, and I'll never forgive Celtic for Liam Miller.

I feel our squad is more than capable but we need to iron out our defensive issues. Another midfielder would be nice but I doubt we'd get anyone of the required quality in January.

That a big enough "if" for you ?

I love Vidic as a player, but Im just not convinced at all he will get back to anything like what he was like until his injury a year ago. I guess we will find this out in the next few months.

Evans isnt a leader, and Smalling isnt experienced enough to be that for quite some time, and this is why for the foreseeable future I cant see Evans and Smalling working out as a partnership. I would love to be proved wrong, but I just cant see it somehow.

Fabio was meant to be the better of the two brothers when they arrived 4? years ago, but I just cant see how he can progress anything like Rafael (Im also not sure if QPR loan is going to work out so well for him). Either way both Buttner and Fabio are far too green to be a permanent fixture in the team currently, and while Evra is having a better season than last - Im still not wholly convinced he can last much longer (although a better left winger ahead of him could help that side hugely).

edit - if we are going to talk about wingers, then Nani is surely going to leave before Young!!! Nani may well have more talent in one foot than Young has in his whole body, but he isnt going to win this battle of nerves / stand -off with Fergie. Unfortunately this rumour of PSG's interest is only ever going to be just that, a rumour. Cant see it happening in a month of Sunday's

I had totally forgotten about Miller, but yeah that was a bit of a disaster lol.

I know that its Jones's "preferred" position, but I just dont see him as a centre-half for Utd in the foreseeable future. He is a good alternate to Rafael in the full back position, and he can do a job in midfield but unless he is given League / FA Cup starts as centre half, he wont be getting enough playing time there to build up a head of steam / confidence in that position. Maybe a few more years at Utd , and without any horrible injuries the general experience will count for a lot, but not anytime soon imo

Sky Germany (and some other German places) are reporting that Manchester United have agreed a £12m deal to sign Robert Lewandowski, and that we've agreed personal terms.

As a Welbeck replacement I'm happy with that if it's true - but it shouldn't have been a priority.

Sneijder is also leaving Inter but I can't see us going for him, not that I'd complain. :p

Didn't you already sign him in the summer but just waiting for after euros to announce ;D?

Thank god he isn't as good as fifa suggests

Lewandowski

So we're now going to play 5 strikers?

Surely this means Hernandez will be leaving? No way Rooney or Van Persie will leave, Welbeck has just signed a new contract...and we can't keep 5 strikers happy can we?!?

I tell you what would be great Fergie, how about that unit between defence and attack that could do with a little reinforcement...

Im not saying its a great idea, but there has been more and more talk of Rooney playing more as an AM (and a few more games this season as a floating left winger/outside left too).

Maybe stop counting him strictly as a striker?

I don't suppose you want to let Giggs go? I'm sure he'd do a better job than Gervinho on the wing, or wherever the hell he's supposed to be playing.

Any L'Pool officianado's or ITK's think there is any truth about Reina on his way out ??

Personally I would be damned surprised. I dont doubt that we are looking for one of the younger keepers they mentioned, but not as a replacement for Reina, more likely as his number 2. Reina has been a stalwart for the club, very rarely injured, good keeper, loved by the fans and by all accounts a huge morale and camaraderie influence in the dressing room. I'd be very very surprised if Liverpool were thinking of selling him.
